Anyone had a chance to try the new Eureka Optima vac?

It's the one with the circular handle. It's very light (less than six lbs, I think) but has full power (12 amps) and capacity.

It is bagless, and I understand the opposition of some to bagless designs. So let's just agree to disagree on that point.

The price is attractive: about $60. I like the fact that the filter is washable, and the brush roll can be turned off for hard floor cleaning.

The machine has gotten consitently good reviews on various sites (Amazon/eOpinion) for cleaning ability, suction, and ease of use.

It is not a HEPA type machine, but... I'm not sure that is a requirement as long as the existing filter is good enough.

great vacuum

Another vacuum i "had to have". It is light and powerful and the filter inside does a pretty good job. When i take the dust bin off to empty it i check the slots at the bottom where the suction comes from and it is clean, not even fine powdery dust. I usually use a full sized duster brush because i can't stand the current trend of using tooth brushes and passing them off as dusting brushes.

Toggle! This is the vacuum you should get if that DD ever breaks!

Dirt Devil D2 Reaction Dual Cyclone

Marty,

Thanks for the feedback!

I *almost* went to get one of these, and then I saw the TV commercials for the new Dirt Devil D2 Reaction vacuum cleaner.

This one is also bagless, but ala Dyson it has two cyclone chambers, and easy-empty dual dust cups that empty with a push of a button from the bottom, plus a washable HEPA filter (no filter in the dust cups to fool with).

I figure someone must have come to a legal agreement with Dyson on this, and at about $160, while more expensive than the Optima, it is probably a more capable machine. I like that there is no filter in the dust cups to deal with, and that they empty easily. It's also got a 10 foot hose, and a 32 foot cord.

The specs I've read indicate a motorized brush roll, but don't indicate if it is switchable on/off. That could be a deal killer on this one.

Well, someone finally unpacked an Optima at Costco, and I played with one a little this afternoon. I wasn't overly impressed with it, but I guess for a small, lightweight vacuum it's ok. I was surprised that it doesn't roll easier. It semms like the wheels were stuck or something. I also didn't like the chastity belt style dust cup... kind of difficult to open. Again, a lot of resistance. And, my experience with in-dust cup filters has not been all that postive. It can be annoying trying to dislodge clumps of dusty pet hair and such from the filter folds. In fact, I prefer my original style Eureka bagless Boss because there is no dust cup filter to fuss with on a regular basis (although one must wash/change the two motor pre-filters when they get too loaded).

Anyway, my attention has shifted to the Dirt Devel Reaction D2... which I'll be looking for soon enough.
