Eurovision (Song) Contest 2007

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

For those big Eurovision fans there may be a double treat in store 'cos the competition maybe split East and West. Either that or it will have to be renamed the Easteurovion song contest. I watched in on Saturday and felt like I had just sat through a freak show!

Yeah, what was up with the British entry? Was that sponsored by Richard Branson or something?

It is a good thing that Eurovision only happens once a year. My sides are still hurting, I was in absolute stitches rolling around the floor. The British commentary was a gas and the dancing mirror ball reminded me of that movie character Mrs Doubtfire. Eurovision definitely puts the 'C' into cheesy.

This whole Eurovision song contest is getting more and more revolting. This is not about music anymore, this is only about politics. And the East European minorities in Western European countries all vote for their own country. The Netherlands didn't even get to the finals, because of the political voting in the semi-finals. Here a link to the Dutch entry. It's Edsilia Rombley, a few years ago she ended up fourth in the finals. Perhaps she suddenly can't sing anymore? The sound quality on Youtube is low quality, but you can hear that that woman can really sing! Still she ended up 21st in the semi-finals. So she is supposed to sing worse than Verka Serduchka? Good grief!

I voted for Germany too as I liked the song very much and thought he had a good voice. Too good to be showcased in that tragedy. The UK entry would have been better if they had dispensed with all those props. It looked like Junior Showtime - never seen anything like it before!!!

My MSN screen name at the moment is:

..:: Mr Jon ::.. BUT SERBIA WAS SHIT

That says it all :-).

The funny thing is the Serbians probably think they've won because of their singing, despite the fact that the contest is heavily weighted by politics!

I liked Serbia.

I thought it was a good song. It is a big power ballad and I could imagine the winner of Australian Idol singing this on the steps of the Opera House. It reminded me of the traditional song that would win Eurovision. Imagine how it would sound if sung in French?

Yes the voting was political and obviously biased but it would of won even if the other Balkan countries didn't. I do have a soft spot for many Balkan acts but hated the former Soviet acts like Ukraine and Belarus.

I dont know why countries like Germany France Spain and UK dont vote for each other. No point crying that no one else votes for you. Pick up the phone and vote for Germany and France instead of that stupid Ukrainian entry.

I also think the UK would of done better if they sent Cyndi instead of the crew from Virgin airlines. Not much better but maybe 10 points more.

Eurovision rates very well on Australian television.

Arrrooohhh,

Apparently we have a different taste in music. But that is fine. Or were you voting on looks? LOL

Anyway, it's not going to help when the Western European countries start voting for eachother, that would only make it worse. This whole contest should be about music, not about neighours voting for eachother. Right now it isn't about music.

Another strange thing is that the Eastern European minorities that moved to Western Europe are the main voters from Western Europe in this contest. That is the reason why a lot of votes from Western Europe go to Eastern Europe as well. Perhaps we from Western Europe are not as fanatic about this as the people from Eastern Europe.

it's always been about politics...

and not the quality of the performer or the tune or the lyrics. What we used to call "Western Europe" usually does pretty cheesy love songs, what we used to call the "Iron Curtain" countries almost always do stuff about how very much over-the-top-greatly-wonderful their culture is.
The Scandinavian countries usually vote for each other, the Austrians against the Germans...
It is just entertainment and nothing else.
Still, Germany had a decent singer and song for the first time in years. Knew it was going to be good when the old biddies were complaining about it in the garden.

Let's try to look past any politics.

After all, one of the leaders/ founders of a major world religion was anti-political, anti-violence,anti-govenment, anti-organized religion, anti-hate and anti-judgement.

He was about regaining one's personal power through love and prayer and self-discipline/fasting and most of all forgiveness.

If everyone on the planet did just one thing per day to beneft another person without ego, self-centeredness or the desire /need to feel special/elite or above/better than anyone else, the world would be a more beautiful place.

The hard part is suppressing the ego to actually DO such things automatically. It's nto an easy struggle.

No matter what one thinks of such contests, they can all be seen with purity of thought if one so chooses. There is ugly everywhere. We can ALL choose not to focus on it.
