My Mothers Magnavox Concert Grand had an Imperial Micromatic TT.At one time replaced the motor in it-and routinely greased it.The heat from the preamp tubes-right underneath the TT-baked the grease hard on the moving parts under the changer.So each visit (yearly) gave the Imperial its yearly grease job.And also retubed the amps in the unit.When I retubed the preamp-tuner-the unit worked so much better!I am still chastizing her for giving the unit to Salvation Army.Hope it found another home instead of---?Anyone here have any "inside shots" of the GE Hi-Fi consoles-would like to see their components.I have never seen or worked on one.I have always preferred to tubed consoles and components--early SS had a very harsh sound to me.The tubed ones had a more smooth-"lifelike" sound.

Nice console Jason! The console market is really drying up around here. I haven't seen a good one like that around here in years! The laundry room's a great place for it!

Micromatic vs. Imperial Micromatic?

Hey Guys,

A question - what's the difference between Micromatic and Imperial Micromatic? To me, it's just a cosmetic change. The changers look the same except for the labeling and front turntable dress shroud. I do know that several top of the line early 70's Maggie's had a Deluxe Micromatic changer that had a concealed light in the on/off/auto post and was activated by the sliding lid - when it was open the light would come on to facilitate changing records. I also know that the Automatic changer had the on/off/auto control on the right side instead of the left - by the tonearm. Anyone shed any light on this?

OH yes-Jason--enjoyed the video clip of your "Maggie" console in your laundry room-"laundry Hi-Fi!" Pretty cool.My laundry room isn't big enough for a console.
Fonografmaniac-Cool link-Love that 1949 Magnavox Hi-Fi hutch with early TV!!I would have to suppose in 1949 THAT is "Hi End" Hi-Fi.And with the SW tuner-could use it to listen to where I work.also like the FM band that had BOTH lo and hi band FM!you could still use it today-the Lo band(Armstrong) band is gone.Like how its TT is similar to the one in my Moms unit-not too much different in appearence.For the $15.5 I would buy that unit-even if I had to haul it home on my back!
And the console market has LONG dried out my way-one of the reasons is there was no Magnavox dealer in the Greenville area.Have only seen two out here-one was in VERY bad shape and the other was by the road along with a Zenith Hi-fi console.Was going to try to get someone with a truck to go back and get them-when I got back----they were gone.The Maganavox console had a TT and tuner amp similar to Jasons.I just hope the TRASH people didn't get them-would be so sad to see those get their demise in the back of a RL trash truck.Residents out here say that "Maggies" weren't real popular out here and the nearest dealer was in Wilmington or Raleigh.

That's not the original turntable. Looks like a early 60s replacement.

i believe that turntable is from the mid 60's just buy looking at the name plate. itz the last of that kind right before they changed the tonearm design. this particular one is for the portable and components sets because i never saw the white ones in consoles and it has the short knob too.
