Everyone Please Read: AUTOMATICWASHER.ORG TO GO DARK FOR 22 HOURS

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

As above, will greatly miss it and also support the blackout.

Jeezus, if that nonsense passed I couldn't even throw movie quotes into posts without a lawyer and a license agreement. As everybody ever in a Lucas movie once said, "I have a bad feeling about this."

It's another gawdam lobbying grab. Ostensibly benefitting a few media corporations. But idiots that they are, not realizing that people publicizing their properties benefits THEM and costs them NOTHING.

DELIGHTED to support your effort to stand up to corporate greed and Orwellian Big Brother Control. Your link was enlightening. I hope to see Congressman Higgins this Saturday and I will raise holy hell. Greed is so out of control today, and this is a glaring example.

In 40 minutes AW.org fades to black. This is historic and exciting. Till tomorrow night then.............

We're Back!

A big thanks to everyone here at aw.org for your support of us joining the SOPA/PIPA blackout today. Three sponsors of the SOPA bill in the House dropped their support today. It appears that the after the blackout today SOPA might be near death and hopefully the Senates bill PIPA wont be long behind.

There are many reasons to oppose this legislation. Here is another example of what could happen to us here at automaticwasher.org if this comes to pass...

Under the act, if someone personally wanted take our site down, all they would have to do is post a comment to the site that included copyrighted material.

If I didn't catch it in time or realize the text was copyrighted, the site could be reported. I certainly cannot afford a high-powered lawyer and the site would be shut down by the feds. Even if I could afford a lawyer we might not get our day in court until 14 months later. The perpetrator would succeed in getting rid of us at least until then. By that time it will be too late and all this would do nothing but help line lawyers' pockets.

I felt we did the right thing by joining the blackout today. We have to take a stand and protect the internet as we know it in any way we can.

OK, back to laundry and dishes everyone :-)

ps I found it painful not to be able to check into aw.org today!

I fully agree

Thank you Robert for helping tell the internet nazis to shove it straight up their ass. There are some things the government needs to stay the hell out of and AW.org is one of them. I have done 4 loads of laundry (hot water, Tide, Bounce and 2 loads of dishes, Industrial Cascade/w Phosphates and Jet Dry) so the laundry and dishes never stopped for me.
Thanks again for all you do! Nick

Welcome back everyone.

If this nonsense passed I think we'd find ourselves already under prosecution. There are manual and brochure outtakes here which are of course, copyrighted. They have no commercial value to the owners so don't even fall under current civil copyright law, though the owners could still sue us and we'd have to spend $50,000 defending to PROVE they're not covered. The buyers of Heathkit manual copyrights from the 50s threatened to do exactly that and had the content deleted from online databases though they do not publish it and it represents no value to them whatsoever.

Not only that, but currently the copyright owner has to file and pursue the complaint at his expense. Under SOPA the TAXPAYERS have to file and pursue the complaint at THEIR expense ON BEHALF OF the corporations.

Pardon my Irish, but how much worse does bullshit have to stink?

I own a commercial copyright (song) that sells on every continent except Antarctica, with several unlicensed versions on youtube. I do NOT want it deleted. Gawdammit, I wrote it to entertain, not to sue people over. SOPA would force youtube to delete it out of fear.

I think it's more than just censorship. The United States government wants in the worst way to be able to control the Internet. Actually this SOPA thing started off in the Department of Defense. Someone, somewhere in Washington thinks the Internet is a security risk. They want control of it based on this idea.

Well too bad, the Internet belongs to no one entity anywhere. It's owned by the public, the individual creators of all the websites and viewers.

Actually SOPA & PIPA would have been just the beginning, a thing used to open the door and later if this thing passes more control type of bills would be passed until the U.S. governement is reasonably satisfied that "they" own the Internet.
But what good would it be then?

The SOPA and PIPA proposals---UTERLY STUPID and unneccerry!!Keep the GOV'T and HOLLYWOODS noses out of the internet and other things ,PLEASE.Now if "Hollywood" would make a BETTER product that people would want to use--this wouldn't be a problem.Glad you went down in protest-it was interesting that "Vacuumland" didn't go down in protest, too.

I swear, the "southholes" in Hollywood really get on my nerves. It's not like they won't make millions if someone uses a picture or a song on their website. They all have more money than they know what to do with anyway. And besides, they get their share of free crap anyway even thoughdthey have the money to buy it. And what if one were to use such materials for research? Would that be concidered piracy? Now I know copying it word for word would be, but honestly, there would still have to be many similarities to the original documentation anyway. People are just too damned greedy these days. Here the internet was supposed to be the information highway. Now they want to put limits on that. And here we pay out the butt every month to use the damn service! I'm really hating the way things are turning out.

It is ALL simply unamerican!

Ya know I am about as liberal as they come. I don't even see how a bill supporting CENSORSHIP would even get presented! I would expect to join hands with conservatives on this issue because I would think that this is one thing we could agree on as Americans. Censorship should not be part of the American way of life.

Have those balloon knots in Washington lost their minds? They really will sell us all out if they get the chance, won't they? Maybe it is time to dig out the pitchforks and torchs;oh, oops THAT WHAT THEY ARE AFRAID OF!

Don't think it has gone by un-noticed that most of the recent protests, poltical movements get started on the web and big sister don't like it one bit.

I am not really surprised by any of this because we are not really free like we used to be anyway. At least I don't feel free when I must submit to a urine test and background check just to get a job.

Thank you to Robert and all that participated

Though I did go through withdrawl; it was for a good cause.

I sent notes to my representatives, and posted on my facebook.

Now the question remains for those of use here:  "Where were you when the lights went out?"
