Political propaganda advertisement on Television

There's a new add you all may have seen on TV. TELL CONGRESS TO STOP ONLINE PIRACY. It's paid for by Creative America Campaign Inc. Web address creativeamerica.org
It shows an American Flag made out of light bulbs inside a big light bulb. You hear clicks of a keyboard as the lights go out on the flag and then the big light bulb explodes. A narrator says, "American ideas. They shine through in a thousand new products, new software and movies, creating millions of new jobs. But now American creativity and innovation are under attack. Everyday foreign criminals use illegal web sites to steal American products; to steal our ideas (the big light bulb explodes) and put Americans out of work. It's time for a new idea. Tell congress to stop on line piracy."

The Creativeamerica logo with their web site name is on one side of the screen and U.S Chamber of Commerce is on the other side of the screen.

Where are all of these millions of new jobs? Aren't good ideas usually patented? You have to file for it with the U.S Patent and Trademark Office. And The U.S Chamber of Commerce, who is a sponsor of creativeamerica.org, isn't even an agency of the United States government. It's a LOBBYING GROUP! Go to Wikipedia and read about it.

When you go to creativeamerica.org and finally get past the first page it's called The Entertainment Community Against Content THEFT. For the most part they don't even put out anything worth watching anymore. Just stupid reality shows with idiots doing foolish things. The movies aren't much better. Just dull, boring crap. Rarely a new or creative idea. What do they need to have protected!

The more you stir this the more it stinks. I'm outraged.

As a society we've become so fragmented and insulated it is near impossible to rally any large group around a subject or ideal.  It's rare to find any common ground, anything a large or even small majority can agree on.   Big corporations use this very well to mobilize small bands of people to do their bidding, when in many cases it's against these very  peoples best interest.  You say or post "American Jobs" in a commercial or a web site and people seem to automatically go in lock step.  When it comes to a topic like the internet, while it may protect a few Hollywood jobs it could be devastating for the country and world as a whole.

It's clear to me that any politician that supported or had a hand in creating this monster is being spoon fed by big business and Hollywood media companies - those are the only entities that stand to gain by this crap.

Edit:  Good read...

This is so true and funny I had a good laugh!  Best line -  "Don't cry - Disney owns the rights to that emotion!"

Cathy and I like to stay through the end credits at the movies so we won't miss any Easter eggs or "crazy credits". One disclaimer seems to always show up last: "Filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia" or some other foreign location, which is ironic when the screenplay's setting is present-day USA. The very studios who cry about losses of American jobs and money to piracy are guilty of exporting thousands of American jobs and millions of American dollars every year by shooting outside the USA so they can avoid paying American crew and talent.

Hollywood
hypocrisy

Hmm. . . same number of letters. Coincidence? Not any more.

U.S. Programing moved to Canada

You're exactly right, Joe. Much of the programing we see either comes from Vancouver or Toronto. And most of the newest and most interesting programing and music comes from the U.K. I think the Screen Actors Guild may be responsible for pushing a lot of the programing out of the country. I admit that they have a right to a union, but if they turned out decent programing they might not have to depend on their union for protection so much. Most of what's on television is either reality shows, cop shows, or medical shows. What happened to the good old days of television programing. There were great situation comedies like The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Bewitched, The Bob Newhart Show, Petticoat Junction, Green Acres and I Love Lucy. The list gos on and on. And there wasn't 40 % commercials and 60% programing. There was 80% programing and 20% commercials.

The thing I miss the most were the great variety shows we used to have with people that had tremendous talent. The Jack Benny Program, The Red Skelton Show, The Dean Martin Show, The Smothers Brothers, Ed Sullivan, and most of all The Carol Burnett Show. Most of these people could sing, dance, do stand-up and play musical instruments. People with inborn talent and then classically trained. They could do anything at the drop of a hat. My heart longs to see it again, but it will never be back. It's just another part of our country that's gone.
