Mommy when I grow up I want to be just like you!  I want all my appliances to be RCA Whirlpool too!

And I want a big, strong husband just like daddy!

You must have needed a hat with ear flaps to work at that counter in line with the air conditioner unless the louvers could really be sharply angled up. That's the same type of stupidly-designed or ill-designed pull out cooktop over a lower oven that I saw on my paper route.

I wonder why they did not use a little girl in that ad? Was anybody here a child star in appliance ads?

<span style="font-family: georgia,palatino; font-size: medium;">Great AD!</span>

<span style="font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: medium;">I love the full size refrigerator and freezer next to each other!  I always wanted this set up when I was younger! </span>

<span style="font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: medium;">Does any manufacture still make matching freezer & refrigerators so you can do this set up?</span>

RCA Whirlpool

My parents had that air conditioner in our house 220 volts...I don't recall the BTU's but it cooled our whole 1200 sq ft w/no trouble...pretty quietly too..I thought it was sooo cool that the controls were hidden behind a door at the top left that looked like louvers....

Brent, I believe KitchenAid no longer offers a set of these all-ref, all-freezer units. Some friends just put a set of these from Frigidaire in their new kitchen, their carpenter did a beautiful job building them in and they are quite good looking. If you have the room and the need for this much space devoted to refrigeration, it's a great setup. I always drew in the Sub-Zero set in the floor plans I drew as a kid.

My neighbor!

Had the Coldspot version of that AC, it was so cold it would make your teeth hurt!! I agree, beautiful ad, but not very practical!

SISE BY SIDE SEPARATE REF AND FREEZER

Almost every major manufacturer had these in the late 1950s through most of the 1960s. They made great sense but the last good quality ones were the KAs that WP made in 1987-1988 only. WP did reintroduce these about ten years ago as the WP side-kicks and Frigidare also has been selling these and also making them for Sears. Unfortunately these later machines are based on the currently available two different freezer designs that are widely available in the US. And they and all upright freezers are pretty poor excuses for high quality appliances. That said I have still sold a number of pairs of the in recent years and if you treat them well they are still a great idea.

I have a pair of the 1987 KAs in my kitchen and except for a burned out light bulb in the ref I have never had a problem with either including the freezers ice-maker. I have another all ref and freezer in my kitchens pantry that my brother Jeff helped me custom modify for Energy Efficiency..

Yes, the layout of this set is not particularly logical,

however, it is an ad, and as an ad, it's pretty darned spectacular.  I always thought Whirlpool did the best job with Copper.  Our Whirlpool Imperial washer was from this time period.

Tom...I really got a great laugh from your posting up there.

A person could still do worse than a houseful of modern Whirlpool.

I personally loved that model kitchen, I'd make only 2 changes, I'd have no window AC and I'd have a 40" electric range inplace of that goofy gas one.

I really love the look of the dark appliances with the white wash cabinets, and I've always been a fan of the brick pattern linoleum

<span style="font-family: georgia,palatino; font-size: medium;">Thanks for the links Greg and Joe!  They look fantastic!</span>

<span style="font-family: georgia, palatino; font-size: medium;">John I remember your set in your kitchen.  I always thought it was one solid unit!  </span>
