Experimenting with a Keurig

I've had my eye on one for a while but didn't want to lay out a bill or two just to try it out. Well, I found a B40 Elite on Craigslist for $40 in very good shape so bought it. The survey says... Well, the jury's still out but leaning towards liking it. The lady sold it to me with the Keurig reuseable K-cup and I'm learning the ins and outs. Jacqui even tried hot chocolate in the reuseable and it worked pretty good. I'm the only regular coffee drinker in the house and don't wish to waste half a pot just before I leave for work.

Anybody else have any likes or dislikes on the Keurig? Any fav flavors or even other things tried with the reuse cups? I use spring water from WallyWorld as the water is high mineral here and a jug is less than a buck. Where do you get your K-cups? The general idea is to try to get the price per new K-cup to down around about .50 each, right?

There are also a bunch of accessories for it like various K-cup holders, etc. I'm liking the platform with built in tray. Hmmm...

I have a lower model cup-at-a-time Keurig that I have had for several years. I don't use it a lot, typically only on weekends. During the week I just make my coffee at work. I have an old drip brewer there and I use a chopper to grind my coffee fresh every morning, I'm a bit spoiled that way.

The Keurig is no doubt very handy for brewing single cups with minimal cleanup. Initially I used K-Cups, tried many of them, and ultimately never found one I liked a lot. Some tasted alright but the funny thing is that none of them seemed to carry the caffeine kick I was looking for. The other rub is that the mug chills the coffee too much, I try to always preheat now.

I have been using one of the reusable loose coffee cups now for a year or so. Its more of a hassle to have to clean it etc but I think the end result is better. Its still no match for what I make at work though. At least I have control of the freshness of the coffee and I feel better not tossing more plastic into a landfill.

I know a few people that have Keurig brewers and they love them. There are a lot of ways to make coffee. Another friend swears that coffee isn't coffee if its not perked, in that case I'll have tea

I'm on my third Keurig. They make good coffee but the per cup cost is just too much. Mine now serves as a hot water dispenser for my Folgers instant.

Keurig

I had the Krups version of the Keurig. I used it daily as all I wanted was a single cup before leaving for work in the morning. Sometimes I would brew an iced coffee with it when coming in from work in the evening. Sadly, it began to go insane and sometimes brew nothing and other times a partial. Finally, it developed a leak and I buried it in the back yard (not really)

Since I have a selection of coffee makers, I decided not to buy another Keurig. Although I still miss the instant cup in the morning.

We love ours!

We have had it about 3 years now and use it 2-5 times a day. I still brew coffee in the drip maker for regular morning coffee to save $$--we are big coffee drinkers!. I use the Keurig in the afternoons for coffee and at night for decaf. My personal favorite is Dunkin Donuts brand that I can only get at Dunkin Donuts-so far. I tried the Gevalia brand recently (on sale at Kroger) and like it too. I have noticed on some of the K-Cups the plastic is harder for the needle to pierce and it will make a big mess.

No K cup needed

I got this little brewer from Sears for $20.00. It has a little washable filter but you can insert a paper filter (just use a regular Mr. Coffee style filter. You can put a little extra coffee in for a stronger cup. Very quick brew cycle and perfect for that one cup before work.

I enjoyed the sample and cup from a friend's Keurig. Appreciate the convenience if but a little pricey but wow, what a variety of coffee and teas.

Going on 5 years with Keurig

and I love it.The model is the one with 3 cup sizes. Has been very reliable. I have the reusable cup but never use it. I've been buying folgers brands (morning blend is very good) and the donut shop decafe (forget the brand at the moment). Target and Walmart have these in 18 packs for $10.99.. You can get the 80 cup boxes (Forget the brand but very good, including a Paul Newman Decafe) for just under $40.

I also order online from time to time (Coffee4less.com). Some pretty good deals.

I used a Keurig Platinum for a few years. But last year I shelved it and went back to the Cuisinart Burr Grind 'n Brew. Why? Well, the Keurig would occasionally refuse to brew. It would just sit there. Then if you shut it off and on again to reset it, you'd have to have a big mug ready because it usually tried to deliver twice as much brew as it was set for.

The K-cups are a bit pricey, even when I got them at Costco. However I found I like the Tully's House Blend the best. The Paul Newman, not so much. I also tried two different types of reusable cups. At that point I started wondering, now I have to grind the coffee and load the cup and the coffee won't be as freshly ground as using the Grind 'n Brew. Also, I have an older Melita 2 cup brewer that fits a travel mug (or two) under it and actually works pretty good. For that of course you have to grind in advance but it doesn't come with all the bother of the reusable K-cups and the Keurig unit's unreliable operation.

So I just set the Grind 'n Brew for four cups - preheat the vacuum pot - and have as much coffee as I care to each day. I can also fill up a travel thermos from it and take it to work - the Copco 1 pt thermos keeps the coffee hot at least until lunchtime. Couldn't exactly do that with the Keurig.
