Does anybody own one of those small laundry spinners that run 3000rpm. I have seen them on Ebay and YouTube. I was wondering are they worth buying. Are they great or awful to use. They look little and have a spout on the side where the water leaves.

spinners

I have one. It works great but it won't hold a full washer load. It cuts drying time by atleast 50% or more. I bought my at " laundry-alternative.com " JEB

I have one of the Pakistani spinners. A few others here had them two, but mine seems to have lasted the longest.
They extract a nice amount of water from the laundry. Great for when you are hanging clothes outside to dry. I can dry a load of towels in my dryer in about 25 minutes, vs 45 without spinning them.
One thing I have noticed, is that clothes and towels that have been spun in the spinner do not seem as nice and soft as the towels that have not been spun.
I have had mine for about 3 years now, and no problems.

In addition to removing water, extractors force out mineral deposits and detergent residue (such as Zeolites, and the "saw dust" used a fillers in some powders), leaving laundry quite soft.

Was debating getting a Spin-X or even having an extractor sent from Europe, but as they do not hold much more than my Hoover TwinTub's spinner, which spins at about 2200rpms, never really bothered.

Easy Spin Dryer

How fast does an Easy spin-dryer spin? I have 2 a 1948 and a 1930s the one with the three half bells that go up and down.Like the one on the 3 Rascals they put the baby in.Thanks Bobby

As per Laundress:

When we first got our spinner, we did see a lot of sudsing in the rinse water coming out of the machine, even after a crystal clear rinse in the washer. The spinners do extract deep down left over detergent very well.
Maybe the spinner compresses the towels with the high speed spin and makes them stiffer out of the dryer?

Towels and such may feel stiffer out of the dryer because of being stripped of laundry product residue. This would also explain the fluffyness as well.

Really don't mind the extra "stiffness", though it hasn't really come to my attention.

Thing about high speed extractors is they can stretch the daylights out of some things, especially anything with Laytex, or Lycra.

No, Miele Does Not

Send any of their extractors to the USA market.

Thought about nabbing a smallish version (6-10kgs) on eBayde. but not only would shipping be VERY dear, the units require 3phase 440 volts (two 220) or some such power supply common in Germany but not the United States.

One can find many Miele domestic spin dryers all over Europe, such as on Hood and eBay, but again shipping to the US would be dear.

3 phase 440

is now the standard for commerical laundries in the US. Most all new equiptment is 440 unless other specified on order. It enables smaller wire to be used and less amps draw. The change over started about 5 years ago.

Despite Their Noise

Twin tub extractors do have the benefit of not merely gravity draining, but use of a pump as well. Stand alone domestic extractors with pumps are more expensive than the more common gravity draining units. Creda, Frigidaire and other European spinner brands offered and or offer units with and without pumps.

Being as the above may, lack of a pump can mean longer machine life, as there is really only the motor as the main working part of the spinner.

If one is going to purchase a spinner, know that there are two types of motors. Older and some modern units use motors that start out at full speed, which will throw anything inside the tub right against it, and also can cause unbalance situations. Other units use induction or other types of motors where the spinning is gradually ramped up to speed. This process is gentler and less likely to "throw" the unit out of balance.

Spin-X has a unit designed for swimsuits and such that uses the slow ramp up to speed design.

Spin Dryers

Hi Guys.

I bought a Zanussi seperate spin dryer off ebay. It has 2800rpm, and leaves clothes very dry.

This is so handy when you want to put them in a drier. I leave my towels in for about 5 mins, and they dry so quick.

Just as with wringer washing machines, modern spin driers for domestic use have been made safe to death. This has been the result of lawsuits and reports of bodily injury and even death, up to and including limbs being torn off. Wee children figure highly in these reports which finally lead the EU to issue strict regulations on extractor design.

These rules in part helped lead to the demise of twin tub units, with their high speed extractor compartments. New rules required various features such as locking lids and so forth that would have made redesign expensive versus potential sales to recoup R&D.

Spinner Laws

The laws for interlocks on spinners came out here in 1974, then manufacturers had to have an interlock arm or control on the spinner lid as well as a mechanical / electronic cut out so you couldnt get into the spinner while it was even coasting to a stop....

The fastest spinners we had where the Hotpoint models that spun at 3,100rpm, the Creda`s spun at 2,800 along with Servis etc... heres a Bendix at 2,800 with a slide interlock arm & Hotpoint on RHS at 3,100 with a push button stop/release!!
