Goodness...., my Kenmore DD does not kick up that much suds when using the heavy duty cycle, but I cannot wait to get my (eBay special) KitchenAid agitator to really power wash a small load and kick up the sud level......

Much of the suds you see in DD WP/KM machines is not due to agitation. Instead, it's due to air being pulled into the pump and being whipped up and pumped into the tub. Direct dirve pumps have a way of doing this. The lower the water level, the less the pump has to work to produce suds.

Peter,

I think on the newer DD has a flap on the inside of the pump to prevent sud lock when washing small loads. I will have to check and see when I get a chance to replace my pump. I've replaced the tranny a month ago and saw light rusting on the drive shaft and the pump.....

That must explain why I don't get much suds in the '98 unless I add a lot of detergent and agitate at a LOW water level (by selecting the "notch" after the "Heavy Duty" cycle...the machine will agitate without any water in it).

All this talk is making me want to buy an older DD Whirlpool....:)

Kitchenaid Agitator

I got it yesterday and I see why their machines does not need to use 120 SPM on their machine.

THE SKIRT BLADES ARE HUGE!!!

Whirlpool should have made this an straight vane instead of DA. There is no need for the auger when I've used this bad boy on the High water level with a load and it roll the clothes over without the help of the auger. The rollover rate should be just as good on the Extra High setting!

Anyway, I need new dogs (Auger/Spiral part) for this puppy and done 4 loads just using the base and the rollover rate at 90 SPM is the same as using an BD doing 68 SPM which is a good thing! It kick up some suds at the beginning of the cycle but for some reason it get knocked down during the wash, I wonder why?

Slightly hard water stupid!
:-))

Oh well....., at 120 SPM does put a major drag on the motor and transmission, so a extra large load at that speed will not be used! This agitator at 120 SPM puts too much stress on the suspension system, tranny and motor, so it is best to kick it down a notch or I will be pressed to do an tranny replacement in 2 years or less.....

KA agitator

I wanna see the huge KA agitator installed in a DD machine with the super fast 180 spm. THAT would move some clothes around! Better yet, the wide KA base with the str8 finned commercial top that has about 3 inch fins sticking out of the upper agitator post. WOW! You will notice that gentleness is not a part of my own agitator agenda. Give me powerful water currents!

Off ballance

Durring throw spin the suds covered part of the drum so when water drained out the unplugged hole it went bam----bam----bam---bam---bam--bam--bam-bam-bambambambambambam and it stoped eventualy

Yes I will be careful gansky, for the smell of straining motor was in the air yesterday!

I did get a chance to put a Queen size spread using the extra high water level without the auger and the rollover is awesome at 90 SPM!

Hummmmm........, over worked, need more suds....., Hummmm over worked, need more suds.

Sorry my washer just had to pray!

LOL
