Anybody know if anyone still makes those double-oven ranges with the eye-level oven? They were big in the 60's and 70's. I've already replaced all the other appliances in my house, might as well do the stove, right?
I've always wanted one of these stoves. That second, smaller oven always seemed like a really good idea.

There was a thread in Super

about this, and it's off the board now.

It seems that the only manufacturers doing double oven 30 inch ranges currently are Maytag in the Gemini series, and now Frigidaire. The difference is that Frigidaire's small oven is where the storage drawer would be.

I have a friend in Massachusetts who has the smooth top/convection (in big oven) Gemini, and he likes it, and has had no trouble with it.

Sacto,

The last time I saw the double oven eye levels was in the 80's and at that point the upper oven was a microwave. It was GE. My mom and two of our neighbors all had them with the two regular ovesn. My mom's was a Roper avacado gas stove, one neighbor's was a gas Kenmore with a slide out cooktop with the brioler under the upper oven in harvest gold and the other neighbor's was a Electric Hotpoint in harvest gold. One friend up the street from us had a Modern Maid with the upper oven and a full size dishwasher under the cooktop where the lower oven would be. When it was time for me to by my first new stove I would have liked to two ovens also but we could not find a manufacturer of them. That small upper oven is very good for baking small thing, especially in the warm summer months. I opted to get the GE 30 Profile smoothtop convection range and the Profile convection/microwave spacemaker to hang above the range. THe small convection oven does a great job for smaller baking. I save the space off my counters and got the convience I wanted. THe one shocker is my mom paid about $500 for her stove in 1974 and I paid over $2600 for the two in 2004. A big price jump. How things have gone up. I just hope mine last as long as hers did. MY mom replaced hers in 2003.

Re: Eye-Level Ovens:

Hey! Veg-O-Matic, if you have any 2nd Hand Appliance Shops nearby or not real far away to check out and your willing to buy a 2nd Hand Stove for your "Retro" Kitchen Make-Over, that is what I would do, if it was myself. I would think that some place would have at least one For Sale. You might also try checking out Thrift Stores, they might have one that someone got rid of that still works real well and that person just wanted to Update their Kitchen, but not in the way that we would prefer, with "Going Back into Time" with our Appliances..."Good-Luck"

Peace and Happiness, Steve

30 inch double oven ranges

I see them all the time here in Florida.Just last week I saw a Frigidaire Twin 30 Custom Imperial from about 1975 in white at one of the salvage places I go to.I could have bought it for $25 but had no use for it and nowhere to put it.The only thing I could see wrong was the missing filter in the exhaust overhead.

Eye level is lower.

Veg I have the litton, the top oven is a microwave not a conventional oven, I got this from a family member, when they did a remodel. The thing i don't like, its hard to deal with tall pots on the back burners. It's kind of a pain when you do big holiday type cooking. Seems like the upper oven is in the way, and sticks out more than a micro/hood. Two good things the lower self clean oven is the best oven I have ever had in my life. There is fluorescent lighting in the glass between the stove top and upper oven, very nice and bright. Depends on your usual cooking habits. You will love it or hate it :-) alr.

Fridigaire Flair

I would give important body parts to get hold of a Classic Fridigaire Flair range!!! Those things look awesome and have the eye-level oven like you speak of. I am "renovating" my kitchen to look like one of the "modern" kitchen of the late 50's and early 60's. One of these would look perfect in there!

Cybrvanr, there's a pink flair range for auction on Ebay. I believe someone he posted the link on the 24th or 25th in the Imperial section.

We had a wall-oven in the house I spent much of my childhood in. Darn if I can't remember the brand. Very nice, you could look in very easily. And the storage space under it was a cabinet that was actually useful.

I well remember many a batch of chocolate chip cookies baked in that oven...!
