Are there any plans to do this so whirlpool will get a license to produce the f and paykel style electronic direct drive washer?

Fisher and Paykel is owned by Chinese firm Haier. They may license the technology, which is doubtful, but I'd suggest a merger is even more unlikely.

In short - no - would be my summation.

As Ronhic said, there will be no merger.

The closest we ever got was the Maytag, Whirlpool (or was it Kenmore?) DishDrawers from many years ago.

I think some washers are licensed with the SmartDrive, but cannot remember which ones those were.

Kenmore Oasis, Whirlpool Cabrio, and Maytag Bravos toploaders were all based on F&P and used the SmartDrive motor until the new VMW belt-drive design came into play ... but upper-end models are still using it now.

KitchenAid first-generation drawer dishwashers (KUDD01) were rebadged DishDrawers but the 2nd generation models (KUDD03) were not.  The Kenmore Elite and Maytag drawer models were never F&P-based far as I know.

I have an idea for a Kenmore Elite pair!

I think Kenmore should make an Elite set which is like the Fisher & Paykel pair below. The pair should be much great because the washer and dryer below are excellent performers!
