Has anyone tried the new Downy Whitening softener? I bought the Clean Linen scent one and I have to say that it does perk up the whites. The color of the stuff is almost a blue-violet color and it smells very good. They also had the Clean Breeze scent and I thought that it was a tad too strong smelling. I was at Shaws sniffing both bottles and a woman looked at me like I was nuts...I figure I would rather smell it before I buy it than not smelling it and hating it and not using it. Been there done that.

Am I the only one that Hates Fabric Softener?

I don't want to be the one to pee in the Sta-Puf, but the smell of all that stuff makes me want to rewash the clothes! Have you ever gotten a whiff of the dryer exhaust? PU! And what a number it does to the dryers. I never (well, maybe once) use softener, and my dryer ductwork and fan looks like the day the machine was installed(I check it all the time-have never needed to clean it). Every other machine and ductwork that regularly gets softener looks like fuzzy, cholesterol blocked arteries. And softener sheets cause all kinds of stains in the drum, let alone the clothes. I won't even think what it would do to my Maytags with electronic control! If you want soft clothes and towels, use a dryer. If you don't want static cling, don't overdry them! Now I'm going to post this.......... and run like hell!

Wow...might have to look at our store (for the first time in a while since I quit working there...LOL) and see if they have it!!

Right now I'm using the Ensueno down in the shed that Ross sent, along with the Viva detergent. The two make a nice combination in my opinion!

my favorite is

Final Touch, alas almost impossible to find around here anymore.

Mountain Spring flavor Downey is my 2nd favorite

I'm a user.

I use about 1/4 to 1/3 of a normal dose of Downy in each load, more to cut remaining suds in the final rinse (hyper-soft water, I have) than to soften or 'scent' the clothes. In fact, I use so little that there's really no scent of it once clothes are out of the dryer.

To answer the aforementioned question, I don't think I'd use Downy w/ Whitener since most of my loads are blacks/dark colors. If I don't wear all black at least twice a week, my membership in the World Of The Arts gets revoked, LOL.

Whiteners/brighteners tend to give black/dark colors a 'faded' look, so I avoid them like the plague. In fact, I use Cheer for Dark Colors (no brighteners) on those loads.

Besides, my warlock's brew of powdered Tide CW and chlorine bleach whitens my white loads just fine.

I've used softener for years, never had any machine trouble or build-up on fabrics (far as I'm aware). I like a mild scent on towels and sheets. For jeans and clothes, the smoothing effect and lessening of wrinkles with Downy Advanced. (Thanks, thanks, thanks for the supply, Bryan!!)

Granny hasn't used softener much since she got my GWL08 and DE04 ... but I always used it when I had the machines. She has half a bottle of Downy Advanced, and I bought a bottle of yellow Suavitel for her last week. I did the "softener build-up" test on the dryer lint screen last night, water ran right through. She *has* had them for over a year, so maybe if there *was* any build-up, it has already cleared.

Ahhhh didnt realize that some dont use it or even care for it. I use it to control static in the dryer and I rarely use dryer sheets. I too have bought that Ensueno softener and liked it. One softener that I do like is NuSoft..smells like the clothes were dried outdoors and its hypoallergenic.
I do have to agree that the Suavatel softeners are a tad too strong smelling. My alltime fave softener is Fleecy Extra Fresh...when I go to Canada I stock up on it..love that scent.

I love fabric softener liquid

I use it in every load, except for the kitchen towels and pot holders. Even in summer.

I just use the standard Downy in whatever version of "April Fresh" is current.

Used to trade off with Final Touch, and had a flirtation with Snuggle (How could I say no to a cute bear?) But Snuggle isn't the bargain it used to be.

I despise, loathe, abominate, abhor, and just plain hate dryer sheets, however. They seem to be good for preventing static, and for scenting clothes long term, but not as good with softening as liquids.

The rare times I have to use a coin-op dryer, I feel the drums for the one least gunked up with dryer sheet residue.

I used to love the smell of the orignal "Downy" back when it was introduced in the mid 60's.

We never have used dryer sheets, and we seldom use fabric softner. We have a bottle of Downy Simple Pleasures Vanilla & Lavender that we bought when it first came out. It smells great in the bottle, but when we tried it on our bed sheets, they ended up smelling like someone sprayed them with Off! mosquito repellent! Then I realized that I have become somewhat used to bedsheets that are kind of crispy anyway. Anyway, we still have at least 3/4 of that Simple Pleasures left! My wife uses it more for her clothes than mine.

Does Persil with "Essence of Comfort" have the fabric softner Comfort in it, or just the smell of it?
