Other than use more of it, any inside tips on how to maximize performance of fabric softener? So far I've heard of mixing it with white vinegar, it didn't seem to make any difference when we tried it, or adding the softener slowly while a load is spinning, right before the rinse cycle starts (this did make a difference). Any other tips appreciated!

I have found great results with softening if one lets the softener do it's job completely. The rinse should last until the water turns crystal clear and all cloudiness of the fabric softener has gone. (Usually 3-5 minutes.) I also dry everything on low heat as this makes things much softer to the touch.

Drying.

I find that I need VERY little FS when I use the DE806. The automatic dry cycle is perfect. By not over-drying the load of laundry, it stays soft and fluffy.

Saves power and time too,
Dave

Same here with the dryer. It seems if you use too high of heat for too long it bakes the softner right out of the clothes. And using too much softener can cause irritation on your skin.
