Fabulous commercial for failed relaunch of Eatons

I was posting Youtube of my old Eaton vacuum and found this forgotten tv commercial from back in 2000. It was made specifically to relaunch the venerable old canadian Eatons Dept Store chain in Canada after it bankrupted and Sears took it over. This was their attempt to revive it but it failed miserably. I don't think anyone knew what the hell they were talking but the commercials were absolutely fabulous. If you love Hollywood Musicals of the 30's and 40's this is it.

Great Commercial

Beautifully done and it looked like a lot of thought went into it. As I was watching it I thought, hmmm, where have I seen this before?

It was an entertaining commercial, but... launching an entire dept store based on a color? A bit of a reach.

Then again, it was far more enjoyable than those awful Old Navy commercials.

My favourite commercial of all time....

I just love that commerical... The trouble was that when it aired, they broke it up into three sections so if you weren't watching CTV during the 8:00, 9:00 and 10:00 time slots, you probably never saw all three parts and when you saw one of order, you would've thought 'What the ????'. I was working in BC when they aired it, so I only ever saw the third part where Gracie heads off into the musical number with Archie and the boss guy.
Anyway, I still mourn the loss of the Eatons department store - my father worked there for years when he first arrived in Canada and developed friendships with several other people who worked there. The number of Viking appliances that our family had (and yes, still has) would testify to that.
Sorry to ramble, but I loved that ad!!! lol
