General Electric Custom Decorator!! I have a white "French Provincial" unit I paid $50.00 for last year before my car accident. It dates from 1962 to about 1965. Mine has the curved arm Custom VM changer, 19 inch BW television, stereo FM, and the original GE ceramic pickup. I have been looking for another one.

That's such a cool lil' combo. Never seen one like that that had a TV as well. Ooooh, I'd get that in a heartbeat if it weren't all the way across the country.

Veg, it's a lovely unit, and Port Orchard is a lovely town, but it's one of those you-can't-get-there-from-here locations. I drive too much as it is - I'm not spending a Saturday in the car

Custom Decorator

Here is a poor picture of my GE, it may be a '62 model because it has a VM changer, the '63 had a Garrard. It's the best I can do at the moment, but I'll keep trying. If I get a better one, I'll put it in the vinyl thread.

Those were suppose to be wall mounted, or to set up on a counter. I never knew they were available with TV's. That makes it a whole home entertainment center. I bet the TV sounds wonderful through those big pancake woofer speakers, but I also bet that thing is dead as a doornail.

I sold one on consignment once nearly identical but without the TV. There's actually a video of it playing on my harddrive here, come to think of it. I'll put it on youtube and give you a link in a bit.

That's the same custom turntable in yours as in my Larchmont, 63GE. Neato. I guess that one also does not have the vacu-magic, is that correct?

Yes it is like your Larchmont. Due to circumstances here, I can just barely get shots of it. The TV lights up and gets sound, the stereo amp works. The whole set is tubes.

I believe it is a GE.. I have the GE AM/FM tabletop stereo set which looks much like it, doesn't have tv or turntable. It's over in moms basement so I'll drag it on over and take a pic. BTW the doors are the speakers, at least on mine.. it will play with them either closed or open and iirc the hinges are the contacts so there is no wire to the speakers

That's right PeteK. Those pancake speakers played out of either side, and it was the hinges that provided the signal to the speakers which are indeed the doors.

My speakers have cables permanently wired into the set that plug into them to put them across the room. Or like you say, they play off the hinges. The changer has no vacuum cleaner. I had a unit without tv once, I think I still have the owner book and the little floppy demonstration record with it. My other set had that curved "Custom" tone arm on it too.

I found that model here in Fort Pierce, don't know what they wanted for it, or if it worked or not. I know what people say about buying things that don't work, I've been pretty lucky so far, some things I buy just for show, not often, I lucked out with my Custom Decorator, it works $50.00 worth. I have seen sets I'd kill for, and not bought them because they didn't work. I bought a high end GE portable and returned it the same day, because I couldn't deal with the noisy controls. Could have cleaned them yes, but didn't want to trouble myself.
