I was gifted with this salt & pepper shaker by an applianceville person years ago.
I kept these on top of my 1955 Westinghouse washer for display.
I carefully moved these and dusted these all this time.

TODAY I was washing and one of them fell off the 1949 Bendix WCG Gyramatic.

When I looked at the pieces I discover to my shock and dismay that it was made by the Five & Dime company in 1987!! Yes 1987

Take a look at the photographic evidence!

Whoda thunk it!

Just be glad it didn't say "Made in China" inside! FEH for fakes! >:O

Funny you should bring this up

I was out treasure hunting all day and a guy had two westinghouse salt and pepper shakers in pink in the original box. He also had the Westy stove recipe box in pink in the original box. Since I already have a pair of the salt and pepper shakers in white, I passed on them. Put I forked over the money for the recipe box. I would have preferred turquoise, but hey, it's pretty cool and in perfect, never used conditon, with the original box.

Also got a Whirlpool washer dryer irons advertising store light. I'm sure most of the people here would appreciate it. It's very nice.

Here's the recipe box I picked up today

My guess would be it came in white and turquoise as well. There are recipe indexes inside of it and a note to the owner inside starts off "Dear Mrs. Homemaker:".

Whirlpool Advertising Light

Is this cool or what? It's in pretty much perfect conditon. It just has a teeny bit of missing paint on the "W". Otherwise, cherry.

The Whirlpool Light

I went to pick up this old Kenmore Ironing Machine I won on eBay and I was pretty close to an antique place where I had some luck in the past. So, I went the few extra miles and stopped in. The place has gone downhill for midcentury stuff but this one booth had some pretty cool stuff in it and the lady that owned the booth was there taking inventory or whatever.

So, I asked her about the sign and she said it came out of an old appliance dealership in Lebanon PA (which was too far from the place). I know old signs go for a bunch of money and although I the price was probably pretty reasonable, I still have some heartburn. She called her husband and I got 'em down 14 bucks. And they were having a 15 percent off sale if I paid in cash, and I had just enough with the 6 percent sales tax.

So, I bought it at an Antique place in Annwille PA.

Typos Typos

I'm making all kinds of typos tonight. It was supposed to say that the sign came from an old appliance store in Lebanon PA (which WASN'T too far from the place) where I purchased the light. Annville and Lebanon aren't too far apart.

Jon, I've seen those "non-genuine" Westy shakers before too, now you'll have to get real ones! The good thing is they came in lots of models and colors, even the stacked pair - just watch ebay, soon you'll have them all.

The Westy range recipie boxes came in several colors, pink, yellow, white and probably turquoise - but I've not seen that one yet. I have the pink and yellow, and several w/d sets as well - I hate dusting them!

Vers, that Whirlpool sign is sweet! I'm always on the lookout for lighted signs but they usually cost a fortune - congrats on the great find!

Jon, You have the worst d--n luck with things falling off your washers. Either put a piece of that grippy rubber matting stuff on top when you are setting things on a washer or just put them someone else. My mom has a walker with a fold-down tray in front. I could get the manufacturer and style # for you. You would have to supply the tennis balls to go over the back feet of the walker. Or, we could find a Casco rolling hostess cart for you to push around with your stuff safely on its shelves.

Versatronic, I know that sign. I tried to buy it at a local auction house. I left an absentee of $50, it went for $55! I saw it at the Depot the next week. From talking to the auctioneer (whom I know real well), I don't think it came out of a local store. no big deal. I do like that sign, though, and it's in really nice condition. Enjoy!

Well

You guys are so hardcore...if someone here needs to have this sign, I'll relinquish it for what I paid for it plus shipping cost. I paid just under 100 for it and I like it, but I'll give it up for a whirlpool collector.

But remember who your buddy is (versatronic) and I need a matching washer to my dryer OR a matching vintage washer/dryer pair for my laundry room.
