I JUST HATE IT!

My two cents.

I'm tired of the bs that says 'it saves energy!'

How can it possibly save energy? I get up at 5am daily and go to bed between 9 and 10 in the evening. if it is lighter in the morning, I use fewer electric lights before work. If it is lighter in the evening, I use fewer electric lights before bed.

Some folks seem to think that this 'saves' daylight - it doesn't it shifts the time of sunrise and sunset.

I agree, leave time alone. Every "spring forward" takes me weeks to get used to and I grouse until we go back to standard time.

Maybe I should move to Arizona :)

Daylight Stupid Time

Changing clocks is a NIGHTMARE when you own cats (more like they own you). It takes them WEEKS for them to get used to any kind of change in schedule, so they torture us (more than usual) until they do.

That means, the meowing, pawing, purring, knocking stuff off the dresser that usually happen at 6:30am when they demand their food will now happen at 5:30am when we're trying to sleep. When we come home, we're greeted by the loud, ear-piercing, high-pitched, and consistant meows, again, demanding their daily bread from us. Now we'll be an hour late which will add to the fury. When it will be bedtime, Merlin will let us know by doing his usual knock stuff off the counter trick. Again, one more hour worth of it.

So....

Abolish DST, for the cats' sake and the cat owners(servants) sanity.

Maybe there should be a world consensus to stay with daylight savings time all year round, in every time zone and so what if the sun is not exactly at its zenith at noon.

Personally I dont care about the change and my body starts demanding I get to bed earlier and wake up earlier in ANTICIPATION of the time change. Now that the time change takes place on a different weekend, my body is all confused.

But if the true reason is still connected to farmers and their duties/chores, I don't see why the rest of us have to pay a price for such a small minority of the population. Just change the store hours or the market hours or the school's hours or whatever it is in your little world you need to change.

honestly farmers don't care.

When I lived back east, the farmers, especially dairy farmers, grumbled more than anyone else. Cows want to be milked and animals fed no matter what the clock says.

It doesn't save daylight.

Personally I like going to daylight savings time in the summer as it gives an extra hour of daylight in the evenings (until about 10-10:30 pm) and thus more time to enjoy the outdoors. It also seems to give me more energy whereas in the winter time when we are on standard time, it gets dark at 5 pm and I find my energy level going way down.

According to the official information here, summertime is not for saving energy but for having an extra hour available for outdoor leisure activities. In winter it is too cold for these and the clock is turned back because otherwise a large part of the morning (till 9:30 am in the Netherlands) would be dark. Now if there is one thing that I don't like it is waking up in the dark, so I have no problem with going back to winter time. Even with winter time we are already 40 minutes ahead of solar time.

I hate it!!!!

Good point Jason! This my biggest complaint. Animals! They think that you are slacking!
Leave the time alone! Please!!!

I think the big deal is sunrise and children having light at bus stops. When i worked 9 to 5, it seemed always dark. Still I wonder why not just compromise to fall back 30 minutes and leave it alone forever. alr2903

I don't mind so much going to work in the dark.

I don't like coming home in December and having the sun setting at 4:30 pm.

I would prefer having DST year-round.

The latest the sun sets here in the summer under DST is around 8:30 pm.

Our dogs...

....don't seem to have a problem at all adjusting....

But then, cats are odd at times (ducks and runs)

On the other hand, I love the extra time in the evening, getting home when it is still light and being able to (ok, it's WARM) eat outside whilst still light....

Yep, daylight saving time is fabulous....
