Hi Guys
After the exhausting "Gay Games" thread, I thought I would change the subject to something more trivial. How about it?. Many of you are in your 30's or 40's and may remember a wonderful show called "Family" which run from 1976 to 1980. It has rarely been seen since its run ended, but finally it is making it's way to DVD. This was a critically acclaimed show and Emmy winner. Perhaps cheese by today standards but sure to bring back a lot of memories. The second season includes an episode where a male friend of "Willie" (that's the young man on the cover) comes out of the closet. Quite a 'scandalous' subject for 1976. Growing up, this was one of my favorite shows and I thought I would pass the word along in case anyone else is interested in it. It will be available on September 5th.
You all have a great weekend

Luis

About time!

This came out on dvd.

Cheese? If this is cheese, it is a fine artisan made one, and not Swellveeta or Cheezwiz!

Of all the Tv moms, mine was most like Kate Lawrence (Sada Thompson.)

I for one, cannot wait.

Washer /Dryer

Thet also had a great washer and dryer. Was the washer a 68 rollermatic, and the dryer had a window, maybe a philco, or kenmore?

The dryer was actually a Kenmore Combo.

Does anyone remember the dishwasher? I think it was a Thermador/WasteKing but I can't remember. I always loved their kitchen/laundry room - so cozy and warm looking.

I loved this show and will definitely be buying it, thanks Luis for the heads-up!

I have some episodes on videotape(WHAT?) I'm pretty sure I have the episode about Willy's buddy being gay. That episode really spoke to me then. I will buy this on DVD. I usually don't like to buy DVD's, but this one's a keeper!!

I remember the show but never much watched it. It was a pretty big deal at the time, the cast was popular -- Gary Frank, Kristy McNichol, Meredith Baxter, Willie Aames, Quinn Cummings (although she could also be a bit irritating!), Sada Thompson and James Broderick.

I seem to recall...

there was an episode, or maybe a story arc, about Buddy not dating and her peers teasing her about being gay. At the conclusion she kissed the guy to prove she was into it. I was reminded of this years later when Kristy came out in real life.

I liked the opening, I think, with Sada Thompson playing the baby grand and the camera panning all of the family pictures. Her high cheek bones and her eyes always made her look to me like she was just about to break into tears. And who can forget that beast of a stove? That laundry pairing had to be something put together by a laundry queen. I wonder if it was a message to someone; like, 'I told you I could slip this combo in as a dryer!' I think there were actually a couple of different laundry pairs during the run of the show. Not to cut anyone down, but I remember an awful lot of sort of artificial angst in the plot lines. Maybe it was just the zeitgeist of the late 70s.
