Just had to squeeze in a few last days of special baking with my old faithful "Fanny". She has baked, roasted, boiled, fried, simmered, sautéd, broiled, and warmed for my family of 13 for years. She has battle scars, to be sure. Some pretty big chips in her shiny enamel, her outlets, her lights, her clock and timer have long ago given up. But everything that counts works perfectly as long as you understand she runs about 25° too hot (but what 61 year old gal doesn't, after all).
She has earned herself a restful retirement in the peaceful basement to be called upon once again, for Christmas, Easter, thanksgiving, and other big family gatherings. She will hand over the heavy lifting of keeping our family fed to her new 'baby' sister, 3 years younger than her. "Beulah" the 1956 pink Hotpoint double oven range. She will be joining us this weekend traveling all the way from new York to Michigan.
So,dear "Fanny", well done, oh faithful servant. Enter into your rest
