There's a Farberware convection oven with the precise-o-matic probe (probe missing) at the local thrift store.. I'm really itching to get it but I honestly have just about run out of room and it's $24.99. Someone here has one.. are they really really really good or just ok?

Good, But....

....They are a LARGE appliance, big as an old '70s microwave, and of real use (at least in my kitchen) only several times a year.

They're great for critical baking, and they do roast in less time than a conventional oven. But the footprint requirement means that mine is kept in the basement, and brought up only as needed.

P.S.: If you get one, be sure to put the filter through the dishwasher after each time you roast meat. Otherwise, the filter stinks up your kitchen. It's easy to forget the filter while you're cleaning everything else.

Go for it!

Unless you are regularly roasting very large turkeys, I can't think of a thing which the Farberware won't do better than a conventional oven. I'd make the space for it. With a microwave, you've got (those turkeys aside) 100% of your oven needs covered better than your stove can do it, faster and using less electricity.
Just make sure the cord is in good condition. Those units consume much less than a regular oven, but still - quite a bit and for a prolonged period.

Peter, Peter, Peter...

Of course you need to get it! It's only 25 clams, and even if the probe is missing, it's Precise-O-Matic!! You need it for that alone!

You will get it. You will get it today. You are unable to resist the lure of the Precise-O-Matic. You are powerless against its siren song.

Precise-O-Matic! Precise-O-Matic!

Do it quick before someone shoots you! *LOL*

Here's one: Pyrolytic self-clean. :-)

My mother had one of these, except there was no Precise-O-Matic feature. Sigh...we just didn't know what fun we were missing.

The oven was bought because the "real" oven broke. I suppose the Farberware was a "temporary" fix. But my mother fell in love with it, and never looked back. Despite the fact that the "real" oven had been the best she'd ever used, or so she said.

Those Farberware ovens are a nice choice for daily use. They probably take less energy to use than the great big oven. They heat up faster--in fact, it seems to me that preheating may not be necessary. They heat the kitchen up less, too--a big consideration this time of year.

The minuses? They are smaller than a regular oven, so some things you'll still need a regular oven. Or else, adjust the size of the project. (A small turkey vs. one twice the size of the Farberware.) The Farberware ovens that I've seen make a lot of noise in operation.

My Daily Driver

I love my Farberware oven(digital model with interior light). I use it so much that my conventional oven hardly gets any use. The Farberware is great for browing and crisping, and makes great baked potatoes.

The Farberware can fit 2-9x13 pans.

Stainless:

I think I'd probably be more amenable to having the Turbo-Oven upstairs on the kitchen counter if I had the stainless model like Gary's.

The one I have is Ye Olde Fayke Woode Graine, and it's uglier than home-made sin, as the saying goes. I do not have a thing against honest plastic, but when it's turned into synthowood, I have to draw a line.

I havent' been back to the store but it's the stainless model. I just don't know where I can put it. I still have no room for my vintage Radarange either which is still over at moms garage. It, the Farberware would be nice for hot days like today cooking out on the deck. I sent the other one out there with the Corningware and Electromatic skillet just now so he wouldn't heat up the kitchen and tax my air conditioning LOL

For Pete's Sake!

Go get the damn thing. If you decide you don't want it, then you can flip it to someone here for your cost plus postage, or you can put it on eBay and make some money- those things go for about $100 or maybe a bit more.

At least rescue it from being bought by someone who's just looking for something used and cheap because their range ain't a-working lahk hit oughten tuh.

Anything YOU can do I can do better..........

No you can't....
Yes I can.......

How are the models without a specific "broil" (grille) feature/setting at that task?
