extra rinses
For nearly two years i would not use the extra rinse on my KM 90 DD because it seemed like a waste.
But i figured why have a TOL washer if your not going to make the best of all it's features. At least in the 2nd rinse the water is clear and just a very light smell of fabric softener.
I find myself using it just about every time i wash now, especially using original scent Tide. One rinse just doesn't cut it with Tide for the kind of laundry i do.
The DAA actually whips up some nice foam, never really seen that too much with any of the other detergents i have used.
Anyway, my hats off to very high water levels and 2nd rinses.
(I really do need a life LOL.)

Electrolux Kenmore FL...warm wash/warm rinse on most loads, hot wash/warm rinse on whites...extra rinse, fast spin. Only the final rinse is warm water, so it's not wasteful.
On the 55 Frigidaire Unimatic...hot wash/with default warm rinse most often because I like to do whites in it.

I'm pretty mindful to the amount of water used here in the house because we're on our own well so I do set the water level dial to correspond with the load and I don't think I've ever used the 2nd rinse but once to see if it worked years ago. My partner on the other hand is a different story. I don't think in 2 decades he's ever figured out or given a fig that our machine has various wash settings, agitation speeds or water levels. I've basically given up, it's what destroyed my first portable compact him jamming in as much as could be stuffed in there. Same with the dryer, no matter what the load I just set it to the auto dry indicator and it works perfectly regardless of load size, not him, crank it as far as possible to the "more dry".
I never use a warm rinse..I've harped against him for doing it..because I don't see what difference it makes except on the gas bill.

The way I wash
I use the "Heavy Duty" cycle on my hettie for all my colored cotton T-shirts and colored boxer-briefs. This cycle has the fastest tumbling speeds. I use hot water and always choose the 2nd rinse. I used to only use warm water, but my shirts are much dirtier these days (ugh-smellier too!). I've banned all white underwear-who cares if they are white or not? I wash denim the same way.
My white things I wash on the "Sanitary" cycle in the early day or at night. If its the middle of the afternoon, I can get away with the "Whitest Whites" cycle as our solar water heater is cranking at that point in the day. Water is only pee-warm when the suns not out. Bedsheets get the same treatment.
Dennis wears Aloha shirts to work every day. These I wash in cold water on the delicate cycle with an extra rinse.
Every week I have a load of towels and swimwear chock full of sand. Cold water-delicate cycle-extra rinse
My washer has these main cycles-
Express Wash-about 35 minutes
Normal casual-I never used this cycle because there is no water heating and only medium tumble speeds-yawn
Heavy Duty-fast tumbling and some water heating
Whitest Whites-same as heavy duty but already has an extra rinse.
Sanitary- Machine makes sure that temps go past 150 degrees F.
Delicates-slower tumbling with an increased water level
wool-No woolies here, so I've never used this cycle.
Silk-super slow tumbling with no spin
Ultra delicate-same as silk with a super slow spin.
Auto-soak-extra deep water level with tumbling followed by soaking
Rinse and spin
