Can you help identify the large appliance in the screen shot and share your knowledge, if you know what this is. This comes from a short film on YouTube called 'Life in Australia - Geelong' dated 1966. [this post was last edited: 3/22/2021-21:24]

Thank you Leon...I do hope that someone else may have some knowledge that they can share with us. It is such a shame that these vintage appliances have almost completely disappeared.

I don't recognize the dishwasher.

There is also a milkshake maker and what appears to be a pie warmer, both commercial products you wouldn't find in a family home at the time. Truth in advertising???

We watched it recently, despite having no speaking in the sound track, it was fun to watch. We live not far from Geelong  (pronounced "Jillong") and quite a bit of it is still recognizable, though the sparse traffic in the video is nothing like today's Geelong.

There is a heap of these "life in Australia" videos, each featuring one city. They were made to show people thinking of migrating here a bit of what they might expect, and were made without any speaking so that translation to other languages wasn't necessary.

Wow - 1966 in Geelong

I love the way the guy at the beach around 18:40 pulls up, gets out of the car ... and doesn't wind up the window nor lock the doors.

No idea what the appliance is, although I think it would be unusual for an ordinaary house anywhere then to have a dishwasher ... but it does so look like it wants to be one ...

Colston by PYE

Tell us more please, I know you had appliances in AUS. under the Pye brand but that does not look like any Colston I ever saw so I wonder how that name comes into it?

I wondered is it was a commercial situation too, partly down to the milkshake maker and partly due to the device on the left which I think might be a commercial toaster as it seems to have six slots on the top

The backplate screams Westinghouse, but that Dial isnt one I've seen before.

The early Dishlexes were also toploading, but from memory looked a lot older even by the 60's.

Unfortunately Choice didnt review Dishwashers in the 60's that I can remember, they were too busy making sure Lawnmowers couldnt kill you with Shrapnel or finding a healthier cigarette.
