Filter Flo Agitator Issues

I have a mid 80's Eaton Viking (private label Filter Flo) with an agitator that is giving me headaches. A couple weeks ago the agitator started (I believe) rising up and disengaging from the splines on the drive shaft. I spoke to a local parts guy who advised replacing the rubber retainer on the drive shaft, that the agitator 'pops' down into. I replaced the rubber last week and have done a few loads of laundry with no issues, until today. The agitator has gone back to disengaging from the drive shaft, so that it does not turn, and the water flume is missing the filter pan. Can anyone help me with some advice? Thanks.

GE FF Agitator Issues

Hi Monte, there is a plastic lower agitator bearing that covers the bolts that hold the wash basket in place, is this there and in good condition ?

 

Without this LAB the agitator can be forced side to side at the base and this can cause it to start to rise and pop off the agitator shaft.

 

Post pictures and we may be able to identify the problem.

Hi John. Yes, the bearing is in place and seems to fit well. It looks like the agitator had been wobbling, but I don't know for how long. There is wear on the bearing and damage to the tub finish and agitator. The bearing has a small groove half way around it just above the bottom shoulder (slightly visible in the pictures)from contact with the bottom of the agitator. The agitator suffered significant wear (paper thin in one place), but I tried to rebuild it with JB Weld (also in pictures). I am unsure how to repair the damage to the tub finish (pictures). I wonder if the agitator spline insert could be an issue. I have been looking for an agitator with no success

Yes the spline in the agitator could be worn a little, it is replaceable, wish you were closer we have several extra agitators around as well.

I have seen some of the splined inserts for sale. Do you know if the part number WH1X1944 would be the correct insert? Do you have any suggestions regarding replacement?
