Filter Flo,anyone?

I picked this up for no other reason than it was there.But it needs a new home,I have too much laundry on hand right now. Condition is untested,but it's dry underneath,no oil leaks or anything I can see.

Are there any dents or dings in the cabinet? I have a machine with a damaged cabinet that I could combine with this one.

I take it the straight-vane agitator came before the curved one with ramps?

I doubt it Steve. The GE's I saw throughout childhood and into adulthood had the cured/ramped activators. I hadn't seen a str8-vaned activator until I bought mine. (The exception is our mid-1950s GE, but taht was a totally different mechanical design and execution).

Straight Vane

Our 1969 Filter-Flo had a black straight vane agitator with three vanes.

This appears to be a Large Capacity (not Extra Large Capacity) machine, 2-speed, 3 water temp combinations, with infinite water level and mini-wash. Circa 1973-1975.

I'll have to look,but I think the cabinet is in good shape.There is a sizable chip in the porcelain top,near the left corner,somewhat visible in the first picture.
Right now the washer is on my delivery truck,parked elsewhere,I'll check tomorrow.

Is it just the picture, or is the agitator cap smooth? I don't see any notches to hold the filter in place.

The filter pan notches align with the agitator fins on top. You can see the fins flatten out at the top where the pan goes on. These newer ones have a smaller diameter center than the old ones where the filter fit over the rubber agitator cap.

I think the straight blade and the ramped agitators co-existed, just depended on what model one got

Anyone know how this particular agitator was performance wise?
The vanes on the skirt seem to be very short.

I looked it over today.The cabinet is in great shape,I didn't see a scratch anywhere on it.The only flaw is the chip in the top.It's about an inch or so long,maybe a half inch wide.

This straight-vane was the agitator that came with my Dispensall, and it seems to be one of the last straight-vane versions produced. That is probably not the original agitator for that machine.

Performance-wise, it isn't a bad agitator, very splashy action and surprisingly good turnover. However, with the straight-vane, I definitely can't get a full 18 lb. load in there like I can with the Ramp Activator...from what Greg told me, GE is one of the few brands besides GM Frigidaire that can actually wash their claimed capacity. The Ramp Activator pulls the whole load down, jeans and all!

I agree, My GE does a great job even if slightly overloaded. The clothing is indeed moved up and down and from side-to-side

Of course the shower of water coming down through the filter-flo filter is great for those air pockets that sometimes refuse to go under the water!

I still just stare at it washing.

Like Others

I would definitely take it if I was closer. It's not an exact match for my dryer but close enough to fool the casual observer while I continue the search for an exact match. Like others, if I was closer, I'd be all over it.
