Filter/Rim Flo Question

Hey all, I just landed a matching Hotpoint set with the rim-flo. One problem, even an empty spin cycle will jar the kitchen. The entire basket wobbles like there was a wet towel on one side. Anyone know where to look for a start?

First, check the feet and make sure they are firmly planted on the floor. I don't think the Hotpoint or GE Flo models have a balancing mechanism. They use a heavy brick instead!

An old "Filter-Ring" uses the old GE "Cable-type" suspension which is pretty tough. Crank the feet all the way in and make sure the lock-nuts are tight. Then while the machine is spinning, lean on each corner seperatly and see which foot needs extra pressure to make the machine more stable. Then you can extend that foot a bit until the machine is just right.This is really helpful on a wooden floor.

If you find the machine likes to go for a walk, you might want to replace those hard-plastic GE shoes with the soft-rubber shoes of an 80's-90's Maytag Dryer. They are about the same size.

While you're at it, find a carpenter's level and make sure the machine is level, using those same adjustable feet. Usually on later GE's and Hotpoints, the back pair of feet were "self-leveling" so only the front ones can be adjusted. If you live in an old wood-framed house, though, sometimes the floors of some rooms are just too "bouncy" for these machines and they're going to rock and roll and make noise whatever you do.

Tub

Is the tub supposed to wobble so far out of whack as well? The whole tub gyrates when it does this. It's a newer style Hotpoint, towards the later run of the Rim-Flo with the black consoles. It has the double-agitation handwash thing as well, seems to be a nice machine, but I'm not familiar with how these work. It has a large cement chunk in the bottom though. I'll try to mess with the legs and see if that helps.

Can I open the top and see anything? If so, how do you open the top panel?

Took a quick video

I took a quick snap of the machine doing it's "thing". Figured out how to open the top (easy), may need a new top tub seal, but I'll see if leakage is an issue. There is a cable suspension along the front and right edges and looks like the majority of the "movement" is actually in the drive mechanism? It's a big ole tub that is fixed to the cabinet, and the inner-tub moves. It's weird.

it may be possible that the bolts holding the tub down are not tight!

remove the agitator (should just pull up) and there should be a plastic ring that comes off with a thumb clip, and under this should be the bolts....

i wonder if it is poddible the transmission is loose, the ge trans connects directly to the suspention or the frame, then the inner tub connects to the trans with the three bolts, the outer tub however does NOT move on GEs it is stationary.
