I'm in the middle of restoring a filter flo machine while using a donor. One machine I have had a transmission leak which has made its way down to the suspension as you can see in picture one. The donor machine has dry snubber pads etc. How stiff should the FF suspension be? And when should the snubber pads be replaced along with the rubber yoke pads and yokes?

John has it right this time

Those pads and mounts last pretty long, my 1956 still has its original ones and it damps just fine. They should drag across the steel plate not grip. They shouldn’t slide across which I can see in th first picture must have been happening with all that oil. I also use mineral spirits or better yet laquer thinner as that evaporates completely from the pads.

Thanks Jon and John! On the machine with the transmission leak they slide nicely across and its quiet. The second one they drag a bit but Ill get them cleaned up and back to spec.
