Thanks to Ron (Buickfins) in NC for the chance to buy matched set (front load washer & dryer) 1970s Westinghouse Space Mates!
Headed to NC this coming Monday to pick them up - it will be a long round trip but will be worth it. Will post photos later after I get them set up and operating.

Now, if I can find a mid-late 1950s Westinghouse Laundromat Delux slant front washer I'll be set..... this one will be the hardest to find.

Randy in Knox TN

Photos before pick up

Forgot I had three photos of the pair in storage at Ron's warehouse in NC. First one is both, second one is the washer and third one is the dryer.

Welcome to the wonderful world of collecting!

You start with one machine, then before you know it, you have a dozen!! Collecting is like a journey, so have fun along the way. Check your local classifieds, craigslist, and local auction houses and you will turn up your dream machine - the hunt is quite good fun!!
Best of all, the folks here on AWO are always eager to help out with problems and glitches with your machines - it is really a great on-line community.
Good luck and keep us posted with the progress of the space-mates!!

Ooooh yes, I can attest to that!

I have only been "collecting" for almost a year (December a year ago) and I have too many now! LOL But yes, that happened to me, before I new it I literally had a dozen machines!

The best of luck with the old Westy set, from these photos, the look great! I look forward to more pix!

Will do!

I'll get some more photos up once I get them back home. What both of you said is probably going to come true the issue is how much the wife will let into the.... sorry, her (LOL!) house. I already have a full specificaion theatre organ in the living room, a new GE Front Load washer and matching dryer in the garage and now the westy set.... already pusing it but she's realizing that I have odd hobbies so I think, in time, it will be OK.... sort of!

Theatre Organ?

I love theatre organs! I haven't got the coordination to play anything beyond a scale on the piano, much an organ. While earning my MFA in historic preservation at the Savannah College of Art & Design, I took a trip to Atlanta to tour the Fox Theatre. All I can say is WOW! That place is amazing, well-restored, and their organ is just fantastic.

Now if only someone would record some good swing music played on a theatre organ...
Dave

Welcome t AW.org by the way.

Sorry Ron...... it got the best of me!

Got the itch to put the photos up..... I'm sure we can get them out - looking forward to getting this collection going.

To the guy about the theatre organs - I have an Allen ADC 3500
Theatre Organ - 2 manuals and pedal and equivilant to a 16 rank theatre pipe organ. The big Moller organ at the Atlanta
Fox has 42 ranks (sets) of pipes and is, esentially, a concert organ but has some good theatre type voices in it. I've got some recordings of it. Also, here in Knoxville,TN we have the Tennessee Theatre with an orginal to the building 3 manual 17 rank Wurlitzer pipe organ. Both building and organ were restored about 5 years ago and the total cost of the entire project which restored back to its 1928 splendor was just over $25,000,000.

Well enough on all that - I'll throw a photo or two on just for fun on the organ here at home.

Hey volvoguy!

You need to come to the St. Louis Fox and see our Theatre organ. It's fabulous.

Randy - welcome!! Here's what I tell everyone who gives me cr** about my machines - I could have a crack habit instead. So far, it has shocked every one of them into silence!

Keith

Thanks Keith

I'm familiar with the St. Louis Fox organ - 4 manual 36 rank Wurlitzer which is an original installation with a smaller Moller pipe organ in the lobby area to entertain the folks waiting between shows.

Yeah, I take a little cr** on the machines but, that's fine, like you said - it could be worse and this is actually a (dare I say it??) - can't resist.... it's actually a "clean" hobby to have.... there I said it.

Ethel Smith

Ron,

This lady was queen of the Hammond organ players back in the
day and she could tear it up!! I've watched some of the Youtube vids of her playing - it's totally wild and awsome
to see her play. I'm not a big fan of the Hammond organ but
Ethel did things with it that made it fun and interesting to listen to and no doubt Hammond sold a bunch of their organs as a result. The other well known Hammond promoter was
Jesse Crawford who was also known for his theatre organ playing at the Chicago Theatre in Chicago and the Times Square Paramount Theatre in New York - both had large Wurlitzer pipe organs.

Sent you an email on the Westys this morning 11/20/09.

Well, it's a 2010 start insted

Well guys, for those wanting photos of the finished product, it's going to be a 2010 project. Weather was too bad to get over to NC this past Monday for pick up and holiday schedules being what they are - busy - we decided to go with a first of the year pick. So, will post more on these Westy Spacemates in 2010. Now the trick will be to find a nice day to make the trip later - one day it's warm/sunny the next it's "Kayro" cold w/butt deep snow.... you just never know down here what will happen. BTW, for those wondering about the Kayro cold.... it's reference to it being so cold that Kayro syrup will hardly pour out of the bottle ie the saying "it's going to be down to Kayro tonight". Well enough with the sillyness... more to come later!
