First Fridigaire Find and how I think I f****d it up...

Ok, so I was warned about moving this machine on its side. I tried to keep it on an incline, but it wasn't enough...
I lost a lot of oil!!!

I didn't dare try running it. I took off the acess panels and tub lid looking for a 'put oil in here, idiot' filler spout, but no luck.
So, how does one put oil back into a Frigidaire transmission??
I started taking the tub apart, but stopped when I got this far...
Help!!!

...I went digging through the service manuals online here, and didn't see any oil filler thingies that seemed applicable.

Hope someone can help you out on this -- that is a beautiful machine!

Me too!! I am sure it's got to be down the pulsator shaft. I just couldn't see anything else...

Turquoisedude, look on the side of the lower transmission housing, there is a nut that you can take out to add oil. I am headed to work right now but I will try to scan the service manual for a Multi-Matic and send it to you.....send me your e-mail address and I will get you the information you need. The oil fill is not on top......oil only goes in the lower half of the transmission and is pumped up to the moving parts in the upper half of the tranny......

For the '59's there is a Tech-Talk manual online her

...at the link below. On page LP-43 (two-speed) and LP-44 (four-speed), lower left, diagrams show a lower housing with a plug. (plug = Part #5433953) Maybe that's it?

i had enough time to do a quick scan of the parts page, maybe this will help until i can get the whole book scanned. Be very careful taking these apart. they are quite complicated to get back together. I took me 2 weeks to get mine back together when I took it apart. If you need any help let me know.....I'd be glad to help. Some people don't like the Multi-Matic but it really is a great machine once you get them adjusted and working properly. I haven't had any problems with mine since I took it apart and worked it over. Will try to get the entire book scanned and will either e-mail it to you or I can copy it at work and mail it too you. Let me know what you'd like for me to do.

Duh! The amount of information right here on the site is quite amazing... This is also going to be a HUGE help!

If I can get a Westy speed changer back to life, I should be able to handle refilling a Multimatic!!

Is that all the oil that got loose? There is 26 ounces of oil in the tranny, if that's indeed all that leaked out you shouldn't worry too much. Make sure all the oil is cleaned off of mechanism parts and then hook it up and have a wash!

If you want, you can drain the transmission, prop the machine to refill using air compressor oil. I wouldn't add new oil to the old, best to drain and refill with all new if desired.

yea you tilted her to much. lay her on her front on an incline and look for the fill port or nut on the trans unit then add some oil .. she should be just fine.. i have done the same thing so dont worry to much
