Finally gotten around to editing the Fisher & Paykel EW50 ECS top loader, its a 1000rpm top spin speed, stainless steel basket and hot and cold fill, hot fill is 60d+ fed by gas combi. I think this was the last of the belt drives before the patented Direct Drive came in..electronic controls, press control and I love the "Advance to Next Sequence" control...It found its way over here after a migrating family returned from Aus...

That's a great vid Mike. I love the sound as it ramps up to full spin speed, it sounds like a GM class 66 diesel loco!
How does the softener dispenser work? Am I correct in thinking it dispenses into the spray rinse?
Thanks
Ian.

Lovely

Thanks for posting this Mike, have been dying to see this one in action for years!

Love the strange electrical sounding motor, a bit like a robot walking on agitate and an electric tube train accelerating and decelerating from spin!

NEAT LITTLE video clip-Love the sounds this machine can make-a real Foley artist-Lets see-robots walking,(agitate),Then Locomotive accelerate-deaccelrate sounds-and then while running during spin-sort of like the Alamo roadside flail mower driving by with the mowers activated. The video is really good both tub shots and motor-drive shots. You can see the inner drum rotating thru the translucent outer one during the fill cycles. This appers to be kinda of a neat washer-like this better than the DD ones. The agitator looks kinda menacing-those huge lower and upper blades-but does move things around!Least no slotted vanes to snag things during agitation or clothes removal. This is one of the best washer videos I have seen-one thing though--during the agitate shots during the wash cycle--you see blue liquid in what appears to be the fabric softner dispenser cup-then you see a clear liquid in others.

The fabric softener dispenser spins the softener into the holding shell where the cup sits and centrifugal force holds it up against the wall. When the machine stops to fill for the deep rinse, the softener runs down from the upper chamber and out into the tub.

Thanks, Mike. Great find. Neat noises. It makes other machines seem almost silent, but I guess the front off makes it noisier. Funny how even with it turning during the wash fill, that dark shirt managed to get an air bubble that the agiatator was slow to take down.

Very nice, and very ahead of it's time... it's almost like it's imitating the rinse sequence of a front loader.  The profile spins are interesting too.  How long does it take for a standard cycle?

Great video Mike!
Always wanted to see what one of these worked like :-) My friends had one like this but i never saw it working. I love how there are a lot of things the same with todays fisher and paykel and the Gentle Annie.

I think as a housewife in 1987 , to have a fisher and paykel in the laundry would be something to show off, hyacinth bucket style lol . "Im just running my fisher and paykel gentle annie all push button totally electronic top loader washer with variable spin speeds and two speciality cycles. Do pop round for coffee at 11!"

Thanks Mike :-D Happy New Years!

Matty.

My parents have one of these. I gave it to them over 10 years ago, maybe 15 years?

All it has needed is one tub-to-pump hose.

It gets a bit noisy when agitating, the suspension units creak where they hang from the cabinet top.

I think it is a fantastic machine. It is used every day, never gets out of balance.

Chris.
