FL LG WM1812CW Washing Machine is ripping/tearing/making holes in clothes

My wife and I have a Front Load LG Washing Machine. Only 14 months old. We noticed towels with pin holes in them, tears/pulls, etc. Underwear, too. Some clothes are tearing at the seams. Did I mention brand new towels...ruined!!!

The model is LG WM1812CW. Anyone with similar stories? Any idea what could be causing this?

The good news is that we are getting a credit at the store it was purchased from. However, I do not think I want to go back to an LG FL Washing Machine. I have the matching LG Dryer that works fine. I also have limited space, so they have to be stacked.

Do I have to buy another LG FL washing machine in order to have the LG dryer to fit on top of it? Can I get a different brand FL washing machine that will allow the LG dryer to sit on top of it? I have an $800 credit and I'd like to keep the cost at that level when I replace it.

I could get the same model, but why would I want to tempt fate.

LG Washer

Joe, I have the LG Model WM2032HW for 2 years now and have not had any problems with ripping or tearing. In fact I had this problem with my toploaders. Maybe it is some manufacturing defect in that there is something rough in the tub that is snagging the clothes. Two of our friends have bought my model and have not had a problem at all. My other friend who is manager at PC RIchards has the same model that you have and has not had any problems with it. In fact, he said the LG's are the top brand for front loaders sold, and he has only had 2 returned in a three year period for a malfunction. I would try a replacement machine first.

Hi! Joe, Ozweego94 have you had the Washer checked out, to see what was causing the Ripping/Tearing of your Laundry? Maybe with the Warrantee {if any still} they would just either Replace the Cylinder/Tub and hopefully find out what is inside it causing the problem.

If the LG Model #WM2032HW is within your price range and the same size Cabinet, I would probably go with it, for a replacement Washer, of the same Brand.

I don't see why you couldn't get a different Brand Washer and Stack your LG Dryer on top of it however, they should have the same basic Cabinet Size and be able to support and anchor the Dryer on most any Front-Load Washer Brand/Model of similar Width and Depth.

I'm looking into sometime getting either a Compact Maytag or WP Electric 220-Volt Dryer to stack on top of my LG Compact Combo Unit, which operates on 110-Volts/AC when I'm able to put it in the Garage, so I can not only use the Combo along with my Collection Washers and Dryers, but so I can also just Wash 1-Load, put it in the Stacked Dryer and then start another Load and allow it to Wash and Dry in my LG. I'm getting a Metal Dual "L" Squared Bracket made to place on the top of my LG Combo and I'm going to use Window Insulation Strips to protect the Finish on the Combo. The Bracket should hold the Dryer quite sturdily on top of the Combo Unit. I can adjust the Level Legs on the Dryer so the bottom of the Dryer Cabinet looks like it is part of my Combo Unit. This should also help to hold the Dryer in place on top of the Combo Unit as well.

LG Problem

Joe,I srell these units and have heard of a few people that have had the same problem.It is not happening in the washer but in the dryer up front where the lint filter is,there is a piece of perferated plastic to let air flow through the lint screan.the clothes for some strange reason sometimes get frayed or caught onto this piece and damaged from the tangling or force from other clothes hitting them as the are hanging there.LG recomends being sure all belts and/or sharp metal pieces on slacks or skirts,dresses or blouses either be removed or turn the item inside out to help keep this from happining.

Hey "laundromat", thanks for your viewpoint. Do you really think it is the dryer? I haven't noticed the pulls, frays and such after the dry cycle, only after the wash cycle. I really don't think it is the dryer.

That being said, it is so confusing.

One other thought. Could the high speed of the spin cycle cause any of this? I've noticed on numerous occassions that after the wash is done, the clothes are practically sucked through the drum dimples (obviously, I am stretching the truth a bit). But seriously, the clothes are sucked to the sides of the drum to the point that when I take them out, I notice individual threads of pieces of clothes that are at a "point".

Can I get the LG WM2032HW if I need to stack my dryer on top? Doesn't the LG WM2032HW have rear panel controls?

Joe, The WM2032HW has the rear controls. I think comparable stackable models to the WM2032HW are: WM2277H and WM2077C.

High speed spin by itself shouldn't cause the kinds of problems you're having, unless the drum perforations are unusually large. The highest intensity spin you can get anywhere is a SpinX spin-dryer, at 3,200 rpm, and I've never heard of people having problems with that. I use a 1400- 1600 rpm spinner and have never had a problem.

If something is snagging on the dryer, you could try running smaller loads through it, or replacing it with a different unit. I'll also speculate and say the reason you see the problems when the clothes come out of the washer could be that they're more visible at that stage than when dry.

Joe, I think this is a good idea, since I do like my machine. It is built very sturdy.

However, Did you like the way the original machine washed?

You may also want to look at the new Frigidaire Affinity.
