Flood water and Maytag washers

I had a foot of water in my basement due to a huge storm and storm sewer water. One of my Maytags is up on a bit of a platform. There was only 3 inches of water there. The other Maytag had a foot of water up on it. I tried both and they work just fine. Will I be seeing strange things happen to these machines as the days wear on?
All of my wringer machines are fine. Thanks for your imput, Gary

Sorry to hear about your mess, the washer should be fine, just keep using it. The brake assembly probably got flooded with water but should dry out and be OK along with the lower 1/2 of the motor.

 

The freezer should be relatively easy to fix as the compressor is completely sealed, the relay and overload protector can be damaged as can the condenser fan motor and defrost timer if your freezer has these items.

The worst that might happen is the radial bearing in the brake package will get noisy during spin and the machine will sound like a subway train going by.If this was sewage water it may cause a cancer on the motor windings I wound clean them if possible and oil the motor bearings with turbine oil.

No raw sewage water. I tried the organ blower today and no go. Time to call Organ Supply and get a new one. Thanks for all of your input and concern. Gary

That's a shame about your organ, and to think you were so worried about your Maytags which survived without a blink. Those sturdy legs on your conventionals are immune.

Gary, do you also have Maytag Automatics, and I missed the thread?

I sure hope you get the freezer and organ up and running without much expense.

HI, The organ blower will cost over $3,000.00. I tried the one at home here and it didn't do a thing. Water was in the blades of the fans too along with the blower box, which is now useless. I have 2 Maytag automatics and they are both working. If the radial bearing goes out on these, I will have them repaired.
I have insurance and told the adjuster that I am not interested in buying anything new washers or dryers, I'll have the old ones repaired if need be. She saw all of the washers in the basement and had smile on her face. She also said. "I haven't seen harvest gold in years; they look like brand new." I'll keep you all informed as to what goes on with all of this. I have never had water in the basement. Gary

Will the insurance company replace your organ compressor?Was any other part of the organ damaged?Organs and floods as we know don't fare out.If the blower box is wood-can see the wood warping beyond usefullness.

A flood in my parents' basement probably caused my mom's Maytag washer to short out; that's what happened (right down to resetting the fuse/breaker) while it was running, though it would still work, while the (older) Maytag dryer was more durable!

So sorry to hear about that, I live in an area (po plain) subject to storms,  floods and flash floods too... I've seen much distruction during  the years In Alessandria (town near here,  still vivid in memories the big flood of 1994).... then also in other regions,  Genova just few years ago with the destructive flash flood.

Sorry, better than a tornado  or a massive flood though !
In this cases you only have to think it could have been worse, of course was better it would not have happened anything, but disgraces hit us <span id="result_box" lang="en"><span class="hps">when</span> <span class="hps">we least expect it</span><span>,</span> <span class="hps">and we need to</span> <span class="hps">make of it a</span> <span class="hps">reason</span><span> and go ahead.</span></span>..always...
It was "just" sewer water.... but enough to make big damages,  to your organ, and stuff in basement, so sorry.

Was water muddy?
Mud is the worst enemy for aplliances motors and such, if it just water the washer should have more possibilities to dry with no big damages if it dried up in time...so I just hope it was water.

I did a big wash today in the Maytag automatics and all worked well;no problems. The new organ blower will be delivered on Tuesday. Thanks, Gary
