Flooded Kitchen...!!! Anyone want this KDS 15!

Well, the timer hung up on fill and I had a MESS!! I was in the next room so I caught it before it did too much damage, im done with it! It needs a timer as well as that overflow safety switch, its coming out tomorrow and if you want it its yours for the taking..I repeat IM THRU FOOLING with it!!FREE!!!

Pawn it off on collectiblecary.  15 series machines were still a part of many kitchens well into the 70's.

Sleep on it. Timers can be replaced or rebuilt and overflow switches are around. You loved that dishwasher when you put it in, don't let one setback drag you back to a four hour cycle-time with pee-stream wash action! The 15 is a "known" entity now, you know what it needs and can get it fixed right.

If I had a dime for every customer who had said that they were going to rip the GD-ing thing out of the cabinet and hurl it down the road but still called me to come save it... LOL.

Seriously, there is no guarantee that a NEW one won't flood. It's a water handling machine. This stuff happens. An idea if I may. Remove said dishwasher and fix the floor. Add a drip tray (similar in idea to the ones for washers...) and drain the tray outside "Just in case...". I am actually starting to see this in some custom built homes. Repair your pride and joy (admit it, she still is...), reinstall and get back to business.

Well...

I still want a vintage dishwasher, but not one of these, True, it does do a great job quickly, but it is the awkwardest thing to load I have ever seen, that top rack is miserable, my kds 17 I had years ago was much better, so I mean what I say...its gone, im on the hunt for a reverse rack Maytag, ive always liked that design as a relative had one when I was a kid and I was much impressed by it.

Workable Vintage DWs

I would look for something like a KA 18-23, we have several KDS 22s and 23 around if anyone is interested. The MT RR machines to me are one of the most unforgiving machines to load as they have a HUGH cutout of wasted space in the lower rack, don't have a decent wash system for the upper rack and nothing in the way of really large pots an pans will fit in any where. The best vintage and best cleaning DWs ever are the KM Ultra-Wash and WP Porcelain tank machines built from 1984-1990, fast reliable best cleaning, great drying even on air-dry setting and largest USEABLE capacity of any DW in modern history.

OK... I'll give you the top rack on the 15 series was a bit cumbersome to load. The Maytags are good cleaning machines, and hold a lot. I never felt the lower rack wasted a lot of space, it's surprising what you could get in those machines but John is right, tall stockpots and super-sized bowls usually become handwash items.
The Whirlpool machines were great cleaners and held a lot but I would lean toward the Kenmore machines vs. the Whirlpool, that silverware rack in the door is a good way to store peas and noodles for the next day's stew (Whirlpool encouraged thrift in homemaking too!) and the flatware never seemed as spotless as it should be.

KDS 15.. Update!

Well, It has been spoken for, it is going to Winston Salem for storage until its new owner can come pick it up...As for tall stockpots...I never use them except at canning time, and normally dont wash many pots and pans in the dishwasher anyhow.
