I installed unglazed porcelain floor tile as part of my kitchen renovation last year.  I don't use my kitchen much so keeping it clean enough hasn't been bad.  My house was recently broken into.  That resulted in fingerprinting powder residue all over my poor house.  I have found that straight ammonia does a pretty good job of cleaning it up, if I get on the floor and scrub.

My thoughts were to get the floor clean and then to apply a few coats of a sealer.  I am wondering how useful one of those small floor scrubbers might be.  I realize that I would still need to do the edges and corners myself.  My house is almost entirely hardwood and tile floored.  Thank God, as carpet would have been trashed.

Sorry...

To hear you've been burgled, happened to my Mum a few months back and it's awful and yes the fingerprinting powder gets everywhere.

I don't see why a floor scrubber would not work, save for the edges.

Kenny,

Thankfully nothing important.  They went through anything that was closed.  They also moved furniture to check if I had a cash, drugs or a gun hiding, I suppose.  They apparently don't appreciate vintage appliances or electronics, but did take a peek inside a turquoise Maytag dryer.  I understand taking the digital camera, ear buds and a small tv, what I don't understand is taking my beard clippers and extra soap and toothpaste.

I am going to make some stickers that say something like:  Not Walgreens, please visit their location at the corner of Olive and Hanley.

I had one of those Hoover Floor-mates but to be honest it wasn't all that great along with being quite noisy. It didn't seem to clean the grout very well and probably could have used stiffer bristles.   It eventually stopped stopped releasing cleaner and rather than try to fix it I was going to say I tossed it.. but actually it's still sitting hidden in a corner because I keep forgetting to put it to the curb on big garbage day when they pick up such things.  I wouldn't buy another one.

You should be able to find a cleaner that will remove the residue at a local janitorial supply.  Perhaps without the aggressive scrubbing, hand or machine.  They can also give you guidance on any sealer or coating for tile.  If machine scrubbing is required, you can rent a floor machine for a reasonable price.  No larger than a 12 or 14" machine and appropriate scrubbing pads would make the work go quickly.

"beard clippers, extra soap and toothpaste."

At one time my brother lived in the city of Leavenworth, as in the city that the Ft. Leavenworth prison is located as well.   His store was in Lansing where another prison was located

When Items you describe went missing along with clothing items off the line.  You always suspected a prisoner on the run.

Yes, believe it or not there have been escapes from Leavenworth, not sure of Ft. Leavenworth.  Worst bloody knock down shoplifting fight my brother ever got into was when he tried to apprehend a guy stealing Levi's jeans.  He had just escaped custody about an hour earlier.

The second worst was when two women were fighting over a Cabbage Patch Doll--different story.
