Flow Washers

Hello everyone, I have a 1968, 1963, and a 1960, Frigidaire washers. The water pressure in my home is normal for the house but to much for the washers timed fill and even the 1963 Frigidaire Imperial that actually has a load selector switch. The Tech Talk and Parts manual for the machines all mention a flow washer that is inserted into the fill valve. I have yet to be able to find anyone that carries the flow washers for the washers or even an equivalent. Does anyone in the AW know of a source for these flow washers. It is getting tiring standing there waiting for the washer to fill to the desired level then manually start agitation for the wash and rinse fills.
I have tried the ball valves, one each for the hot and cold lines. This works for adjusting for the warm wash fill, but is very slow for a hot wash fill or cold water rinse fill. Need some help in solving this problem. Thanks, Losangeles

Tommy - are you using factory Frigidaire valves in place on these washers, or have the water valves been substituted with modern replacements?

The original valves have flow washers in place that regulate the flow down to the original specifications - I think it was somewhere in the 2.5 gpm range.

When trying to fill the tub often times with HOT water on a small load setting it is normal for the tub fill to be different than when filling with both sides of the water valve open for non thermostatic valves.

I have actually taken apart valves and inserted a penny with a small hole drilled in the center of it and that made the water level perfect.

As you said with new valves you'll have to slow down the water flow otherwise it will overfill as new valves don't usually have a water pressure flow-regulator. I have used a ball gate valve on the valve to fill flume hose, 1/4" like this but you'll need to screw on hose barb connectors on both ends. Then you can adjust the handle to 2.5 gallons per minute. I usually set the handle so the machine normally overfills for 10 to 20 seconds during the wash fill. This is enough to ensure a full tub no matter what the water pressure in the house at that moment.
