This is what happens over longtime exposure to flourescent light in my laundry room with the vac on the right. The one on the left was in my upstairs hall closet....
Why on Earth would flourescent lighting cause discoloration? Every bulb in my house is flourescent and I can't say I've noticed anything becoming discolored.
Is there something I don't know about? There's definitely discoloration on those items, that's for sure.
There is a REASON why fluorescents were relegated to offices
Fluorescents emit electrons through a gas filled-tube which excites a phosporescent/ flourescent coating on the glass bulb. This coating on the glass in turn converts the UV light and electrons to visible light. Apparently the coatong also allows huge amounts of UV light to "escape" and be emitted.
Bad for plastics
Bad for eyes (blindlness)
Bad for skin (cancer)
Compact flourescent are now simply less expnsive to buy, so people do!
I'm in the process of replacing all of the incandescent bulbs with flourescent bulbs, so I haven't had any negative experiences with them yet. Are you sure this was caused by your lighting? How close were these items to the lighting source? This doesn't look good! Something definitely caused discolouration to your household items!
Do you have smokers in your house? Frequently burn candles? a little rubbing alcohol on a paper towel may take that off the plastic surfaces. No judgmental bull, we smoke in our house, we are failed quitters.
