I just finished up the bag of Foca Detergent that I was using and went to purchase another. When I got to the store I found the new stock they had on hand was marked Phosphate Free. I went to another Mexican grocery store and found the same phosphate free product. Digging through the stock they had on hand at the Mexican store, I found one large bag on the bottom of the pile, that must have been old stock, that had Sodium Phosphate listed as an ingredient. Has anyone else found the same? I also bought a small bag of Roma, that includes phosphates, to test.
Does anyone know if Foca with phosphates is gone or are there two formulations? Also, any comments on Roma detergent would be interesting.
Thanks,

Allen, I bought a bag of Foca with phosphates @ the local HEB on 7/30/2010.  Lists cleaning agents (lineal anionic surfactant and proteolitic enzyme), water softener (sodium phosphate and silicate), soil suspending agent (C.M.C.), fabric brightener and perfume.  Made in México by Fabrica de Jabón La Corona.  Haven't checked the store since then.

DanManTN, my Foca bag states

- 1/2 cup (40g) to a "bucket" of water for soaking

- 1/2 cup per each 10L of water for handwashing

- one cup (80g) per each 5kg load for machine washing ... and pictures a frontloader.   :-)

Roma

I've used a couple of small bags of Roma, with phosphate -- most recently purchased last summer at a Miami pharmacy, so I don't know the current status of the ingredients.

It was okay. The scent was not great but wasn't too strong, as is the Mexican Ariel (to my mind). It reminded me of US detergents of the 1980s with phosphates and no enzymes and lots and lots of suds. Of course, its easy to add Biz or Clorox 2 and get enzymes as well as oxygen bleach in the mix.

I didn't really feel it was something I couldn't live without. I'd rather add STTP to a more readily-available American detergent.

I've noticed that Ariel here has gone phosphate free, mostly. And I haven't seen Foca on the shelves for a while. I do still see Roma and it still has phosphates.

Never did get a chance to try the lower sudsing version of Ariel ("bajaespuma") for front loaders. I do occasionally use an old batch of regular high sudsing phosphated Ariel when the load of work clothes is oily/greasy enough (or has been contaminated with silicone based anti-foam agents) that sudsing is suppressed.
