It is fun to see all the appliances you have. I remember you saying you were collecting in secret before the move. Have you found much since arriving at your new home or have all these come with you?
The GE blenders are stunning in their oval design and they do a great job. I saw tons of them in the thrift stores with stripped drives on the blender jar and I have noticed they don't have a means to secure the jar, it kind of floats around in the oval trough of the base.
In a previous post of the Avocado Sunbeam model 12, I notice a crack in the handle. I don't remember seeing it before the move. Did it recently suffer an injury or has it been there for some time without my noticing?

Kelly I never knew those Sunbeams were of Oster derivation.
I have a cookbook from the early 70's with all of their appliances pictured, will have to see about scanning some of that!

Hi Kelly, the crack in the handle has been there since I got it. It's one of those things that needs "getting to" that never gets gotten to. T'was never my intention to collect mixers in the first place and then all of a sudden I have all these mixers.

Hi Kelly, i thought about going because there will be plenty of people there that i know but there has been too much drama in vacuumland ( not going to go into that here ) that i thought it would be in bad taste to bring that bad vibe to the wash in especially since this weekend is about washers and dryers. But i hope everyone has a great time! Shout outs to Roger, Rich ,Jeff, Scott, Mikey, Terry,and Evan if you go! Oh! and to Toggles! Kelly are you going? Are you baking treats? I hope to make it to Tuscon one day though! Thanks for the compliments tee hee! I really like those Sunbeam blenders because they look so ornate compared to the Osterizers. Although the Oster blenders that Jeff has on the cupboard are very bling!

Pete, I too have alot of mixers! Mostly GE and Sunbeam Mixmasters! I guess its because mixers and blenders make noise and have dials and buttons and you can see the action! I have a few toasters and coffee makers and while very nice, there isn't the the same BAM! you get with the mixing action! LOL!

I found this today at an estate sale. Yup, a Cyclomatic. It was half price day, so I grabbed it for $10.00. It's in great shape, although the blade assembly will need to be replaced; it was frozen. This blender absolutely freaks me out! That cycling action is really cool! Any idea on the age of this one?

I see you have the fabulous Oster Kitchen Center as well with the mini processor attachment LOL Someone has the coffee grinder attachment on Ebay currently or did.. stupid me sold mine on ebay last year, the coffee grinder attachment that is. MIB, shoulda kept it.

Hindsight is 20-20. I know how you feel about keeping that Oster coffee grinder attachment. They seem to go for a lot on ebay. I guess, knowing that, those attachments are of no use unless you use them! LOL

I have just about every attachment, including the ice cream maker, except the coffee grinder (I have tons of electric grinders).

I have the flat bottom GE with the oval pitcher. It's a fabulous machine. We moved the Nu-Tone out to the RV, so I'm getting a lot more use out of it than I did previously.

I know(?) I have an Oster around here somewhere. I absolutely LOVE that Sunbeam of Marty's with the slider and the starbursty thing.

Cyclomatic

Nice score Venus, the Cyclomatic was Oster's top model. If you scroll up to the top of this thread you'll see my mother had the same model, bought new in 1969 for $70!!

I use a Cyclomatic for a daily driver, the cycle feature is great for chopping small quantities of stuff(like an onion)or for making cole slaw. I also use it when I make dip, which can be a chore with a blender. The cycle feature lets the air come out, and keeps the stuff moving to the blades.
I see a Kitchenaid 4C in the background, I am going to have me one of those one day too!

It's a 3C, identified by the handle of the same color as the mixer and the 3 quart bowl. The 4C is almost identical but had a brushed aluminum handle until the last year of production when it was plastic with no opening in the handle and of course a 4 quart bowl with a slightly rounder all purpose beater. Kitchenaid is reviving the "all purpose" beater to be sold with a 3 quart bowl at Williams and Sonoma only, for $70.00. It is to hit the market intime for Christmas, in November. It will fit only the 5 and 6 quart Pro models.

Great new blender Venus! As I mentioned above, I have the same one with a white trim, and the container has the handle with the metal strap. Nice thing about the Osterizers, they were made the same for so many years that you will easily be able to find the blade assembly.

I do remember they were quite expensive in their day, as witnessed by Jeff's mother's purchase. It's a great feature and I don't know why they quit making the cyclomatics.

My bad Jeff! I saw the one with the two knobs and thought the next one was the same thing! So I guess that particular one is the Galaxie model? That gold Cyclomatic 14 is fab! It looks like it has a speed for every type of food!

I agree Scott, the cyclomatic (automatic) pulse-like feature is great. I can't imagine why it would have been discontinued.
When did they stop the cyclomatic feature?

The truth is that very few people utilized the blender beyond making drinks. You can float any vegetable in water and using a pulse can chop very uniformly and merely strain the veggie when done. Lots of tricks like making powdered sugar out of granulated and more grinding grains and cornmeal for cooking can be done in a blender. Very few were willing to pay the extra amount since Oster was already a premium machine before adding the price of the Cyclomatic feature. In the early 70's Waring and Hamilton Beach flooded the market with $20.00 throw away machines that actually did a great job until the jar got melted in the dishwasher.
The advent of the Food Processor was the death knell for the blender until diet suppliment drinks and smoothies hit about 7 years ago and by now many are willing to purchase a premium machine as a sign of status even if it's only for a decorative object. The Eggplants get talking into even more expensive Vita-Mix and Health Store specialty brands that approach $500.00.

1969 Oster Line

Well some of it anyway. Here's your blender new for $80!!

My mother got her Cyclomatic for Christmas, my dad never bought CHEAP anything, so this was the blender of my childhood. Mom not being a gadget person did not give this much use at all, save for an occasional milk shake for us kids, or mixed drinks at a party. For the most part it sat on the counter with a cover on it.

Mom gave the blender to me about 1997, the one I had died, and when I mentioned buying a new one she said "Take mine I never use it"
I never did either, its been a display blender ever since.

Oh if you're gonna complain about polishing it just give it to me and be done with it !!!!

I use Vim, the creme type, cleans real silver beautifully as well.

I would think with microprocessor technology the Oster "Cyclomatic" could make a comeback-or did Vita-Mix and blendtec beat them this time?Both of these companies make "cycle" blenders that use a microprocessor in the motor unit to adjust speed-cycle the speed up or down as the cycle progresses-and then stop the blender when the selected cycle is over.I own several of these machines from both Vita-mix and Blendtec(the Blender that stars in "Will It Blend?")Each of these machines has a touchpad control panel with pushbuttons not for "speeds" but for cycles according to the drink or food you want blended or chopped.I use these everyday.they were expensive and now several years old-but worth it.I am looking for older Oster blenders-they were among the best out there-their newer machines don't compare to the older ones.Was the "cyclomatic"an early cycle type blender-otherwards when you selected a "cycle" it would set motor speed and mixing time automatically.Then it would stop when the cycle chosen was completed.I have a couple of Oster "Imperial" I beleive it is-got from a yard sale in my area.There was a Vita-mix 3600 there at the same tag sale-got it too.Ironically he was selling BETTER blenders then what he bought to replace the Oster and The Vita-Mix.He bought one of those "Smoothie" machines-cheap plastic jar and motor base,cheezy spigot, and a flimsy blade assembly.I did buy one of those for my collection-not impressed by it at all.Any vintage machine would be better.

I like having that fan, for one thing it actually works pretty well, especially since the motor/fan inside are all new.

One time I was cooking a turkey in the oven, and after checking it I was sliding the pan back into the oven some of the juices spilled out...It was not long before the light smoke was billowing out of the stove, from the stuff burning off. I turned off the ceiling fan and turned on the little fan and the smoke was gone in 5 minutes!
Back when I was a smoker I ran that fan alot, I'd turn the fan on, and stand in that corner by the dishwasher and smoke, and the fan would take the smoke away.

Pete: Thanks for the info, silver polish will work on the gold too?

The fan ain't for me - but I know who ;-) We did have one like it, behind the stove, in an old bungalow. Trust me, those things can have enough power to suck up small animals and children! LOL

On your gold Oster: have you tried Brasso? If you decide to polish the blender, I would certainly try whatever I used in a very inconspicuous area; just in case. OY

Yes, I almost tried brasso, then I read the back of the can, which does not mention gold
Brasso has very fine pumice in it, and will scratch!

It already looks like someone tried to use something abrasive on it before me. I've also been tempted to try TarnX as well, I just need to remember that whe I am in the hardware store.

Of course, there is little chance that it can tarnish more, sitting atop the cabinets like they do they collect ALOT of dust, especially with a ceiling fan in the kitchen running all the time.
I did dust them before I took the pics last week!

Fan: This is the 2nd time someone has commented on that exhasut fan. I suppose its there because of the cathedral ceiling, the range hood was not vented outside, and now I have an over-the-stove microwave there. I do know my model is the only one in the subdivision that has the fan.

On ebay. I really don't need another blender but I really liked the style of this one. It's a Shetland by SCM. I didn't realize they put the Shetland name on any smalls. Oh well. One of these days another one will show up.

Shetland

Shetland has some parent connections to Scoville in the later years as it appears on the motor ID. They are a lightweight appliance that was sold in discount and dime stores when they proliferated the downtown streets of larger cities. They also sold electric brooms, knives, can openers, shoe polishers etc.
They were pretty much gone from the market by the 80's.
