For the LOVE OF!....Vintage Westinghouse Dryer - $100

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

1956

The copper and turquoise trim identify it as a 56 model. I have a matching 56 washer. If it were closer I'd inquire. [this post was last edited: 5/9/2018-21:44]

Ken

I would just inquire and if it's good, pick it up- how far away is it? How often do you find a matching dryer?
Though there are many beautiful washers and dryers, this 1956 style is a strong, beautiful statement. Um, that's my take.

You're right Phil. Especially with this one considering the age and that the redesign on the 56 Westy's were a one year only design. It would be a 10 hour drive one way to get it which I'm not interested in doing. Im going to guess shipping would probably be in the $300-$400 range.

Okay...Did some checking on UShip and got an idea on shipping cost. Not as prohibitive as I thought. Im going to contact the seller and see if they still have it.

Darn you Phil for putting ideas in my head! LOL[this post was last edited: 5/10/2018-12:53]

Good luck Ken!  If you do get it, the problem with the drum not turning is more than likely a dirty starting switch in the motor (that was all that was wrong with my '53).

Shucks

Shoot, Sheist, Shah-nuckles. I can't do anything right....put a bug in someone's ear and the next thing is their mortgage payment is delayed. Seriously, Ken - a ten hour PLUS trip I have done, but not that I planned it to take that long. I-85 from Atlanta to Charlotte was supposed to be about 4 hrs. It took six hours both ways due to construction and accidents. What a horrible drive!

Hence, a ten hour drive is a major commitment. $650 is probably the bigger commitment, for me. It sure is a beautiful dryer, though.

Found a hauler through uShip and the dryer was picked up yesterday. Should be here in a day or two. Here are pics the seller sent me yesterday.

See the avocado washer in the background in pic 2? It looks like a Whirlpool to me? When I spoke to him about the dryer he mentioned a washer he said was newer than the dryer but it didn't occur to me to ask more about it.

I asked about it last night and he said he planned on scrapping it today. I told him if he wasn't in a hurry to do that there might be someone here interested in it.

Yay Ken!  Glad you could save it!  Looking forward to seeing more pictures once it gets to you.

Thanks

When I brought it home yesterday afternoon I left it on the porch because I had to get back to work. I just got finished moving it from the porch into the house. Didn't unwrap it yet.

Congratulations, indeed. I didn't think you were actually going for it. I can't see the avocado washer other than the back three quarters.

uShip seems to be a popular choice here.

ALRIGHT!!

CONGRATULATIONS Ken!
So happy for you that you found a match for your washer! Keep us posted on your updates. Can't wait to see more pictures.

I'm doing the HAPPY DANCE for you on this side of the computer!
:oD

Again CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Ken -

Well, I love that 56 dryer Ken - but am I missing some details? Did you already have a matching washer to the '56 dryer you just acquired?

Thanks, I see the avocado Whirlpool Supreme 80 - are you buying that too? And the fridge? ?

Phil

I do have a 56 Westinghouse washer I got almost 3 years ago from a local CL ad which was a month old by the time I saw it. Seller still had it and was soon going to scrap it as there was no interest from the ad. I brought it home and it operated okay.

Im not getting the Avocado Whirlpool or the GE fridge. As a result of me posting the info here on them the seller did have someone contact him concerning the Whirlpool. I thought whoever it was would post about it but haven't seen anything.

I did take some pictures of the dryer last weekend but I couldn't figure out how to download them onto the computer to get them posted here. It was the first time using a new camcorder/camera. Got to play with it some more and figure that out.

Ken

Oh, so you have a matching 1956 set - that's really neat. To me, no big loss there on the Avocado WP and GE Fridge.

Your camera would have a mini-SD card or SD memory card. This removable card can be inserted in a reader with a USB connector to your computer, laptop and you can then just remove them to a folder called Westinghouse Washer and Dryer(or whatever) and then when you're ready to add the photos to an email, aw.org ...it's available.
Or ..if you have a camera that has an option to "share", it'll send the photo(s) to your chosen Share destination, such as Email, Facebook, Twitter, DRIVE (google, to save), or whatever options it offers.

Best wishes and have fun!

Phil -
