The listing says:

This GE classic 2800 dish washer came with the house we purchaesed and was in the basement for many years in its original box. Its beautiful never used clean - but it is 30 yrs old? So i hooked it up on the proche with water line going outside etc (a real pain) and seems to work fine no leaks its seems seals are good etc? I am not an appliance repair guy but it seems fine - it went through the whole cycle several times. I just want someting more modern and smaller - there are many old post about what a great machine this is and was!

GSD2800 GE dishwasher

This dishwasher could run many years time doesn’t really hurt machines when they just sit seals do not dry out, etc. maybe an 80 years, lol

I would definitely replace the main pump and motor with the new more efficient one not only was the original motor the crappy thing about that dishwasher But it also drew so much power. It often burned up the main board the new motor uses less than 1/3 power of the original motor.

But overall, this was GE‘s best effort yet building a dishwasher. The upper rack held a lot. The lower rack was very restrictive in loading, bulky large things and of course the upper rack does not clean in the corners when you have tall glasses, etc., but you can learn to live with it all dishwashers have their limitations.

Man I'd love this dishwasher. Arkansas is so very far from NY

I have seen maybe this exact model or something similar and it is the most TOL GE dishwashing product and my late in-laws the last time they'd lived in the US had it or the similar one as well, but it didn't last very long...

I hope mostly the electronic components and such will be everlasting to keep this dishwasher in what to me is another FORTIES of years of proper operation...

John's usual exaggerations coupled with his childish terminology, "crappy ". Invariably he has to interject his negative opinions, even when no one has asked. Lol Many of our members have had GSD 2800's, has any one of you ever experienced a main board burn out from high current draw?? I have had three GSD 2800's, my parents had one. Never had a board burn out. Only one problem in all of them, and that was a detergent cup sensor. The sensor did not detect a closed cup and prevented the machine from running. A simple override on the control panel, and you are back in business

Ignore John's negativity, Yhis. GE is one of the finest dishwashers ever made. Not only did it outrank whirlpool, if I recall correctly, two years in a row, but it out cleaned Whirlpool's on the door basket when it comes to flatware. GE's silverware basket was normal sized and smaller than some other manufacturers. From experience, I found I fully agree with one of our member's assessment of the Whirlpool on the door basket as a course food filter.

Indeed, he is right. Often I found pieces of cat food in with the silverware after a wash cycle. Not too appetizing when you expect your dishwasher to give you clean utensils and you find food garbage in the basket with them. Over time, there was staining behind Whirlpool's removable basket, and mold growth at the hinge points where the basket opened.

No wonder Whirlpool later renamed it, the "anywhere" basket, saying you could move it to the lower rack. Of course, that took even more space from the lower rack,. The whole purpose of the one the door rack was to save lower rack space, to behind with.

I am not a fan of that design. If you put spatulas, and other large items in the on the door basket, then you couldn't roll the lower rack over it, when the door was down.

I had a top of the line model, later, that had a utensil rack above the on the door silverware basket.

I was happy to see that, until I put it in action. On dirty utensils, such as large stirring spoons and spatulas, only one side often got cleaned. After the drying cycle, food remains got baked on quite nicely.

The GSD 2800 is s a much more sophisticated machine than Whirlpool's pedestrian design. I hope someone on our site grabs it!

Best silverware basket ever

Imagine trying to put all this stuff in the little basket that came with this GE dishwasher.

We run one of the whirlpool dishwashers every day and I almost never see a speck on anything in the silverware basket and they go in filthy, I don’t even scrape dishes. If leftovers don’t just fall off the plates into the disposer, they go in the dishwasher.

This GE GSD2800 If you put the stuff that I put in my whirlpool, it gets all clogged around the inlet cover at the back of the tub becomes a disgusting mess. I’ve seen more than a few of these. I won’t tell you how many hundreds you get upset every time I cite may experience, lol. The GE also leaves all kinds of garbage around the outside of the grinder sizing plate. It’s nothing compared to what’s in the whirlpool clean. John

GSD 2800

There is little difference in the capacity of the flatware baskets between the Whirlpool and the GE the Whirlpool is wider but very shallow. I, others on this site, and CU confirm it is inferior in its cleaning ability.

You view the world through biasled colored glasses and have no moral problem with lying to support your viewpoint. Your lie about tower wash not washing in corners is ridiculous. I am sure others on this site are just shaking their heads in amazement, if not laughing outright, at your low emotional maturation level. They see how you continually post negative comments about machines other than your favorite.

What's wrong with you man, they are only appliances. It's certainly not worth denigrating yourself in others eyes and disrespecting other members in this group just to force your personal biases on everyone.

The times I loaded a WP with an in-door silverware basket (at an aunt's house) after family gatherings, the basket was packed wayy more than John's example, to the point there was no room to stuff in anything else ... and remaining items were hand-washed.  I didn't observe how those loads came out when the machine was finished.

Damn Damn Damn

I’m not sure who bought this, but I hate you. I mean, I truly love all of you, but this has been my dream for a long time. I tried to contact the seller for days with no response. I assume one of you guys got to it first, lol
