Counter top dishwashers are still about in Europe. AEG among others have them.
Equator and later Danby began selling countertop dishwasher in USA a while ago. Now there are all sorts of cheap versions (nearly all made in China or at least Asia) including one by Farberware one must fill with water before using.
Countertop can openers seemed to be everywhere when one was growing up. Recall reading many consumer publications that basically called them gross because unlike hand held models some could not be washed thoroughly.
Thor's "Automagic" combo washing machine and dishwasher yes did come with a "yuck" factor to many housewives and others. However one had to purchase the dish part separate and many housewives really only wanted the washing machine, so.... This is one reason why tracking down those dishwasher tubs is difficult IIRC, Thor just didn't sell them in huge numbers.
Yes, spread of households with microwave ovens killed off demand for all sorts of other kitchen counter top appliances. Hot dog makers, popcorn makers and more became surplus to requirements.

With me I can personally understand the Yuck factor,
When it came to thor machines But it makes me wonder if they had a clear model like a demonstration model to show of how the water moved about and was used in the machines side-by-side, I wonder if that would’ve actually shown the housewife that “hey the only water that reaches the arrow cabinet is water that can’t isn’t Used for the dishes or the washing”

IMHO the "yuck" factor of using Thor washing machines as also dishwashers was just something people gave as an excuse when pressed.
Times were tight for most households and it often was a stretch to pay for a washing machine which couldn't come out of the housekeeping. Since the dishwasher tub was a separate add on that cost money am guessing many said "we're good" with just the washer.
Then and now if you forced housewives (or anyone else) to choose between having a washing machine or dishwasher, the former wins every time.
There was also a space thing as well. Extra bits required for dishwashing had to be stored somewhere while wash tub was inserted in machine and vice versa.
Most households load things into dishwasher after use, then when fully loaded start and run the thing. For the Thor machine this would mean either keeping dishwasher bits always in machine and removing on wash day. That's fine one supposes but requires planning. That is if one wants to do laundry either dishwasher racks should be empty, or one had to unload dishware, take out those parts, set things aside.....
