I was all excited becase I got this Frigidaire stove off ebay at a great price and it was right up the road from me in the PA area. I already have the matching fridge and a 62 frigidaire clamshell washer and dryer - so the whole set would have looked great together. The seller wrote me last night and said he had some bad news ... he had put the stove outside his garage to load it and after going inside for a little bit - he returned to find that someone had taken the stove from his driveway. He is going to refund my money.
Part of me feels like he made the story up because he was ticked at not selling the stove for the money that he hoped for... but then again...it's totally possible that someone grabbed it for scrap money. How sad - hope it does not get turned in for scrap.

They probably got a better offer and took it! Not fair, but crap like that does happen, especially when a seller of an item gets the hint that they have something 'collectible'...
If it is any consolation, I have seen similar ranges turn up on FleaBay on the east coast recently...

I`m with you - I feel the story was made up.

Someone probly drove by & made an offer the seller couldn`t refuse.

2 risky to steal such a large appliance- Unless he had this sitting out by the curb whitch is highly unlikly - Not to mention you would have 2 guys to load it.

I was always taught to go up to the house & ask before taking.

Yeah, I can't see someone just hoisting a range that size into their car without making some noise...
I also take the 'Go to the house and ask' approach on curbed stuff - 8 times out of 10, there are other things still in the house that the owner has been wanted to get rid of, too!!

I've had that happen to me too with some sellers on Ebay. The bid doesn't go as high as they would like so they tell you things like "I've lost the item, so I'll send you a refund" or "The item was stolen".

In these cases keep an eye on the sellers auctions. Usually the "lost" item will magically appear in a week or so. If you catch them and report them to Ebay, they'll reprimand the seller as this activity is a violation of the sellers contract.

Or just as bad, the seller will send the the item but gives you major attitude over it. I've had that happen too.

Reminds me of an eBay story of my own...

This is bringing back memories of a similar experience on eBay - bought a relatively rare Mixmaster for minimum opening bid and after 6 weeks, the seller got back to me with a lame-ass excuse that the machine "caught on fire". What the ????
I sent a report to eBay, they must've contacted the seller because I did eventually get what I won!

Never question fate, it an not be escaped. .

Maybe this is the one that would have burned your house down. As my grandma used to say "Every obstacle is for the best.
Some things we don't question."

Fate

You are right -I had actually thought about how that could have been the one that burned the house down.
I guess you never know what Fate is up to...
