When posting a reply and automatic log-in has expired, and the log-in screen appears after pressing the Preview Message button . . . after logging-in and the preview function continues, some of the post gets lopped off, both in the displayed preview area and in the editing box. I didn't notice exactly how much, it may be a specific number of lines that remains.

I've seen several cases in which somebody's post got cut off, and this is probably why. It wasn't noticed that part of the post was cut off, and the user continued on with posting the reply, not realizing what had happened.

It's possible the same thing happens if automatic log-in has expired when starting a new thread. I don't often start new threads and haven't run into that situation . . yet.

If anybody runs into this bug, just hit your browser's Back button several times to return to the original editing/entry screen, and the full text of the reply should be there. Log-in will remain in effect since the cookie is already set. Press Preview Message again and all should be well.

Note that I'm using Mozilla Firefox Version 1.0 Preview Release. I don't know if this bug may be specific to the Mozilla family. But I have evidence of the bug on other users' posts, and they probably don't use Firefox.

Interesting...I'm having that same experience but thought it was just a browser error (I'm using SBC Yahoo Browser--a variation of IE 6.0). The screen turns white and even when you do re-type/paste the message it won't let you preview and post; I go back to the thread, reload, and then it will work.

Copy/pasting the message eliminates the red face afterward ;-)

Thanks for the update guys, I will check that out when I get a chance. I fixed the Mozilla red link bug for Firefox and Netscape, but its going to take quite a few more posts in Modern and Super Forum pages to clear out the red bottom links. The Vintage Pink Page has had so many more posting that it is already cleared the bad red link lines. This bug didn't happen in Internet Explorer.

Ummm Pay Attention Missy

Ummm, I was talking about the red links bug which only happens in Netscape not the post cut off bug which happens in all browers, Missy.

Help

Glenn I cannot seem to reproduce what you are describing. Here is what I did to test:

First I logged out.

Then I went into an existing message and typed about seven or eight paragraphs worth of text into the reply message text box.

Then I pressed Preview Message and got the log-in screen, so I logged-in and the preview as well as the text box contains all eight paragraphs completely without any text being cut-off.

Can you or anyone give me the exact steps to manually reproduce this Text-Cut-Off Bug?

Hi Robert,

It doesn't seem to be acting up today; I posted on computers that I always log out of with no problem. I'm pretty sure you fixed it.

The only difference in what you did is that you logged out manually before starting the post. I've run into the lopped-off preview at least a couple times when automatic log-in had expired and I didn't know until after I started the post. Maybe expiration of automatic log-in is the key, as opposed to a manual log-out. Is the mechanism different?

Ahhh, damnnit! My log-in had expired on this computer when I hit preview for this post, but nothing was lopped-off. It's a short post, maybe not long enough to get anything lopped off . . . or maybe this bug is fixed in connection with fixing the other one.

No, I just figured out what the problem is, it gets cut off right before the first " (quote) sign when the user is not logged in. I have to research and fix this. For now be easy with the quote sign unless you are sure you are logged in.
