I was in the garage today working putting the belts on the Multi-Tragic, when the dude that lives on the corner walked over.
He said he found an old washer and dryer set at an auction, and wondered if I wanted them. I went over with him to look, expecting an almond direct drive Kenmore....
What he found was a set of 1965 Frigidaire Custom Imperials! Well, they are in perfect cosmetic condion, and the washer is a Rapid-Dry. They said the washer worked, and they did test it to be sure. It was still wet inside, so I knew it had jsut been used. I paid him for the set, and the boyz unloaded them into my garage. I have not done much with them, as I had too much other work to do today. I did a windex quicky clean up to the exterior of the set, and they look as new! The dude said that they were upstairs in the kitchen of the house, and the entire kitchen was all Frigidaire, all the same colour. (copper colour, but without shading) This is NOT my favourite colour, but I do have to admit, they look really good with all the flawless chrome. The control panels are also in perfect condition. They are starting to grow on me, and that is a little frighting, as I never really liked this style of Frigidaire washer and dryer. All the original paperwork was also with the set, but I have to go over and pick it up.
The dude also bought the fridge, and it was the same colour and Frigidaire brand. He is keeping that. It was also in perfect condition.
At any rate, I will check this set out further next weekend. Sorry that I do not have any pixs to share, will try to get some this week and post. <:

congrads ricky

Rick, thats awesome and a set no less ............ just where are you going to find the room ? (grin)

Looking forward to the pictures

It is interesting if the group of people you know hear you collect vintage washing machines all of a sudden they start to call you if something pops up. This has happened to me. So, did this neighbor buy them on the spot thinking you would take them off his hands? And he transported them to his house. cool deal. I have dissappointed a few folks in not being so enthusiastic about the wringer washers.

Pictures - we need pictures!

Rick - I think we all have a visual idea in our minds of how awesome this set is - brown and chrome are the best! Hopefully you'll get some photos developed and scaned soon - congrats on the wonderful set. You'll warm up to them - trust me ;-)

I got all the paperwork for these yesterday. I think these are from 1966, not 1965 as I thought at first. At any rate, the washer model # is WCIK The washer and dryer cabinets are both full porcelain. I did not realize they still offered that option in 1966!

Thanks everyone! I will have pixs tomorrow. Promise! <:

Yup, 1966!! Well, this is one of my dream pairs. 1965 was the last year pink was offered I do believe. Rick, I'd be trading you the pink set (yuck) if I had one, for the copper, your head would be spinning.

Hi Rick

The 66 copper jet-action lighted dial (separate control knob) was the last Frigidaire we had. It was the custom Deluxe. Don't think I've seen the Custom Imperials. I CAN"T WAIT TO SEE THEM! Good for you, Buckeroo!

pixs as promised

Ok, here are the pixs of the Rapid-Dry Frigidaire set. Remember, these are digital pixs from a borrowed digSHITal camera and are of poor quality. I will take 35mm pixs when after the set is restored. Prolly not until spring of 08 though. The set will go in the workshop area of the basement. There is a coppertone Gibson fridge in the workshop area, and this Frigidaire set will look nice next to that.
