Found this old G.E. dishwasher and this Magic Chef 20 pound washer

I am thinking about getting this dishwasher but I have never used one of these..

Do they wash good?I have one of those wash arms that orbit that have the gear at the bottom..

Which wash arm would work better?

 

The washer though I do want this thrift store has everything in it..They are in a old Walmart so its HUGE...

I grew up with a Norge 20 pound washer that lasted from 1973 till 1997 with the water coming out of the agititator ..

It would wash the hell out of clothes..Do these Magic Chefs wash as well?

He will trade me even for some things I have, so I am not spending anything on it.

I guess this must be one of the first Potscrubber machines released after GE finished with the Rapid Advance 1200 series.

 

As I understand, the little "mini wash-arms" they used to replace the original multi-orbital system could have trouble with binding.  

 

Overall, I'd say its still a good machine, but its noticeable that the "quality" level could have decreased somewhat with this machine from the older machines I've seen posted here on AW.

they are both pretty cool, especially the washer. I found a matching set on CL in my area a while ago. Not surprisingly they didn't last very long.

What does the sticker say on top of the agitator? Is that where you put the detergent?? Sooo cool!

I've never seen that wash arm on the GE before. I've used machines of that era...maybe a little newer even and they cleaned well IMO. Just have to load them correctly.

It says stain cleansers on it I guess to put shout in or something like that..Which is kinda odd when  our old norge had a blue thing like that but

it was for fabric softener.

These norge washers beat the hell out of clothes. I remember watching ours and that thing when it changed direction it was like the agitator hit a wall

then reversed.It would shred towels and everything and my Mom would complain because it would pill up her work clothes.. 

I am sure this machine is not as rough but I don't know the old Norge were made by Fedders but the straight vain agitator and the 20 pound load is

the same so maybe this machine is made as well..

That thrift store is a gold mine..I also found 4 Hoover Concept 1 power drive Vacuums  a Kirby Gen 4 Vacuum for 20 bucks they work just need a little cleaning..

Ah cool! Yeah from the videos I've seen they are pretty rough machines. Still neat to have one though. My Filter Flo is kinda rough too though.

Wish we had a store like that here!

If that machine has a soak to wash or double wash, then that agitator mounted dispenser is used for liquid detergent to be dispensed into the 2nd wash.  Otherwise it's a softner dispenser.

When you look closer it does say to be used with the double wash cycle. That is seriously cool!! You're so smart Bob! ;-)

Judging by the look of the knobs on the washer, my aunt must have had a Magic Chef dryer. She also had a very similar washer - but the control panel was different. Maybe it was branded Norge, can't remember. That was in the 90s.

How big was that tub? Anybody know its cu.ft.?

Double wash on these machines..Would there be anything left of your clothes  these washer beat the hell out of things when you compare it to the crap they have today...

They have alot more things tons of things from the 50s and up anything you could imagine..I had to split my C-leg battery went out and I busted my ass and that hurts

like hell..

 The machine is a 20 pound load.. Huge tub

Montgomery wards also used these Norge like machines and so did Jenn-Air...

thats the first dishwasher I got for my partner........1995 or 96, got it on clearance for around 99.00

those little whirly birds on the wash arm were part of their 'Smart Wash'......actually proved to be a very good wash action....it hit just about every area....and cleaned very well....

I seen the demo model at Sears....makes you want a window in one of these just to see it in action......

but true, you will want to lubricate those once in a while to keep them spinning......wash performance will suffer if they don't spin....

I rebuilt one of these dishwashers (in all-white) for my sister a dozen or so years ago, they used it pretty hard for 7-8 years and loved it. Washed very well.

That washer will be fun to play with, especially for free. There are still a lot of Norge-y elements to it, enough to make it fun for a while. Looks like this is a painted steel basket model. I had a lower-end version of this washer and they guys are right, it doesn't mess around with big loads. They sound like a combine, but they get stuff clean very fast.

that washer doesn't have the burpilator in it. I wonder if you could possibly switch it out for one. Otherwise, the machine does look to have several nice options on it for what it is- multiple water level, multi speed control settings, 5 temp. choices, and 20# capacity.

 

The price couldn't be better that's for sure. Hope it's mechanically sound for you.

I don't understand having a dual wash cycle when I recall how hard these things wash,they don't play around they beat the hell out of

clothes when they wash.Nothing like these machines today that is for sure..I remember opening the lid during spin and it would stop with a bam but it never

hurt the machine..

My Parents bought a matching set from Montgomery wards in 1972-73 and was still working when I graduated but my Mom wanted a fancy washer that

did not pill her clothes she gave it to the church to be giving to a family.She went out and bought a front load Miele or Asko I can't remember because we have had both..

I did not know how rare those machines were..I have never seen one sense then..
