FPI170TS

I have a Frigidaire FPI170TS. It runs great but every now and then, more frequently resently, it does not restart after is shuts off. I have found that all I need to do is tap or wiggle the harness that connects to the defrost timer and it sparks inside the connecter and restarts. Is this harness the problem or the defrost timer? If it is the harness is that something that can be replaced? Should it be done by a technition?

It could be either the relay or the harness (or both) but it sounds like a terminal on the connector has failed.

Depending on your personal experience level you can proceed accordingly. It would be safe to unplug the unit and then pull the plug off the defrost timer to inspect. look at the contacts of both the timer and the connector for signs of heat or burning. Worst case is that things could disintegrate when you try to unplug it creating a permanent problem...

Its sometimes possible to squeeze the individual metal connector closed a bit to give it tighter contact with the tab on the timer. If there are signs of heating or burning then replacement may be needed. Again depending on your personal skills and comfort level you can determine if its a job you can tackle or if you need to call for service.

1970s Frigidaire Refrigerator Problem

Unplug the ref and unscrew the timer and pull the connector off the timer, if any of the harness terminals look burned or damaged cut the connector off and replace all four terminals, and replace the timer. If the terminals look OK then just replace the timer.

Good advice guys. I hope I can find a four position replacement plug. It seems that the pin layout is common to a lot of defrost timers. I would rather have the all in one plug than individual spades.
