Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

That's our 1976 model, or some engineering version of it (ours was LDA7800W2)

Five cycles are: Normal, Gentle, Knit (with single cool down), Permanent Press (with double cool down), and Super Wash on Normal (Imperial models LDA8700, LDA8800, and LDA9800 added a 6th cycle, Super Wash on Permanent Press).

The user guide stated the four fill levels were 12 gals, 17 gals, 22 gals, and 27 gals.

I changed the water level switch to fully variable, sourced the P/N from a higher-up model.

We had a washer very similar to this at the same time.

It had a sudsaver with both hoses coming out the back near the bottom where the sudsvalve was bolted directly onto the machine.
It also had a recirculating lint filter on the RIGHT side of the opened lid and there was no bleach disp.
The clothes retainer was metal, not plastic.
It also had a mercury(?) lid switch instead of the simple and safe lid switch shown above. The former being less fun because it was difficult to open the lid when it was spinning.

I wonder how long Whirlpool will continue to make parts for DD machines due to them still making belts for washers that haven’t been built since 1986. There can’t be a market for these belts.

Bob, these photos 1 thru 4 (saved from a sale posted in 2017) are an LFA7800 (circa 1978-79, next after LDA), still has separate Knit cycle.  Also was debut of the Double-Duty winged Surgilator.  Long-time family friends had it in white.

5th photo is an LFA5800, also has Knit.

LFA7800 was relabeled as the Imperial Seventy.  It was next below the electronic LFA9800.

LFA5800 was relabeled as the Supreme.

6th & 7th photos are a 1980-81 LHA5800 (also labeled Supreme), which has a combined Knits-Gentle cycle and separate Soak/Prewash instead of Super.

Are those softener dispensers removable?

And feature-wise, a machine without a fabric softener dispenser, a washer would not be complete…

But a top of a Whirlpool’s center post still looks good even without…
