Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Kenmore Direct Drive sudssaver washer

These were neat washers. They allowed you to save up to 16 gallons of either the rinse or the wash water or all 23 gallons of either the wash or rinse water depending on the size of your storage or laundry tub.

Jason my business partner has this exact washing, likes it very much. We even put the stainless steel wash basket in it. Sears sold these models for a number of years in the early 90s whirlpool also came out with a sudsaver direct drive washer again, but it didn't give you the options of saving the wash or rinse water in different quantities like this more advanced Kenmore version.

This would be a great machine for a vintage washer collector who wants to use a traditional top load washer to get, the only time I use my top washers anymore is when I can reuse the wash water at least it's just far too wasteful to invest all that detergent and energy in a huge tub of water just to wash one load of clothing.

Water Saver switch functions

OK, my curiosity has gotten the best of me with this one. I understand the concept of being able to save the wash or rinse water, and think the flexibility of this is really amazing, assuming you have the storage capacity to hold both (and the time I would also assume to move the hose between storage spaces to keep the water separated).

Unfortunately, the picture is not clear enough to be able to read the gray text between the Wash and Rinse positions. What is the difference between the left and right side of the switch selections?

Thanks John! I obviously missed that detail. So in the case where you'd have the means to save both wash and rinse water, in addition to moving the drain hose, the switch would need to be moved from wash to rinse.

Very handy and flexible feature for sure!
