I have that model but in almond with black panel. It has the stepped spin feature that supposedly helps reduce wrinkles from spin compression. Extra Small still fills the tub half-way due to the extra large lower fins on the bigger agitator (high agitate speed is medium motor speed).

I noticed the panel says "Whisper Quiet" at the top... What did they do special to this KitchenAid washer to make it quiet?

medium and slow wash speeds kept these machines quiet...a standard thing for machines equipped with the larger base SureScrub Agitator....
It has a sound absorber/insulation pad mounted into the bottom of the base.
Some other models also had the absorber, such as the Catalyst and the GSQ9669LW1 that I have. Also some Bravos models have a similar pad, and maybe Cabrio and Oasis.
Not unusual that the pad goes missing after the machine is transported years later ... it falls off and gets tossed. The Catalyst's was missing but the GSQ had it.
