Machine has Roaring bearings on spin cycle so it’s very loud, you know I post it a lot but I’m going to talk about something a little more interesting. But I’ve seen DuctTape Mechanic’s video about VMW bearing replacements, and it was kind of labor intensive, and these gearcases are not meant to be disassembled. His was a different whirlpool but it is a similar machine to this one and uses the same gearcase.
These aren’t great machines and they use undersized parts for the machine.
I’m going to try to put the 2022 gearcase on this one, and it should work.
The bearings used in these Gearcase I think are 6006 bearings or 6006-2RS. Not sure if the VMAX machines use the same bearings or not. I think the commercial units use NSK bearings but I don’t think these residential models do.
I usually just trash these washers if the bearings are worn out, but this one I might throw a used gearcase on it, the used gearcase is from a Whirlpool with a bad control board, and the splines look to be in good shape and the bearings are good, The used gearcase is from a fairly new machine (2022 model), but since the unit wasn’t under the recall of bad control boards (although it was close), I believe the serial number was December 2022 on that one, so it was made close to 2023, the washer was constantly draining, I decided to scrap it for parts because it wasn’t covered under warranty and didn’t fall under the control board recall.
This machine is also not leaking the bearings just noisy, no oil leaking, got it in, customer complaint was “machine is loud on the spin cycle”.
I know the older style Cabrio washers have replaceable bearings, but the VMW and VMAX machines do not.
