I have a 14 year old Whirlpool model EVL165NXRQ04 convertible fridge/freezer. It stopped cooling the other day. The compressor is running. I took the evaporator cover off to check the fan - not running. When I unplug the freezer and plug it back in the fan spins very briefly then stops.
I'm making the assumption that the compressor would not run if the defrost cycle is stuck "on" - is this correct? The defrost heater gives a resistance reading of 52.8 ohms - I've read that 10 to 150 ohms is normal.
Is there any other reason that the fan would come on for a second then shut off other than a bad fan motor? Anything else I need to test?
